Lisa Howell, Center Director

Lisa holds a BS in Mathematics with a minor in Electrical Engineering from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute. She is very patient with children while she helps them learn math and always enjoys the moments when they "get it."

Favorite number: 3, because it is the only number that is both a Fermat ((2^2^n) + 1) and Mersenne prime ((2^p)-1).

Math joke: It is impossible to trisect an angle using a straightedge and a compass - partially because nobody knows where to find a compass anymore.

Unique attribute: Lisa has assembled her own computer.

CenterDirector

Kama Friedman, Owner and Center Director

Kama received a BS degree in Mathematics from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1992. In 2010 she attained an MBA from the University of Maryland, University College. Having tutored many students in various mathematics subjects for more than 20 years she is looking forward to continuing her quest to help students love math. She has heard too many students claim to not like math, but she understands that their dislike stems from a lack of understanding. Learning to understand math and successfully solve problems build confidence in every student. This brings satisfaction to so many and Kama is looking forward to many "A-ha!" moments.

CenterDirectorPaul Friedman, Owner

Paul introduced Kama to Mathnasium after having heard many commercials about the company. He has been actively involved in coaching many sports over the years with their two sons, Jordon and Clayton. Children relate to Paul because of his ability to address their needs and communicate with them on their level. He is looking forward to working in a behind-the-scenes support role to help this location run smoothly and efficiently.

Joe Miller, Instructor

Joe is an alumnus of the University of Maryland College Park with a BA in Communication. Math has always been a favorite subject of his and he really enjoys working with children and helping them learn and appreciate all that mathematics has to offer.
