Brent Pierson, Owner/Center Director
Brent graduated from UCLA with a degree in sociology and spent the next 25 years working as a documentary and non-fiction TV producer, director and writer. He was inspired to open a Mathnasium learning center by memories of his own struggles with math in middle school and high school. He knows firsthand the frustration of not “getting it” and recognizes how giving up on math can limit a person’s academic and career choices later on. Brent moved to Eagle Rock in 1998 and has witnessed the incredible transformation of the community over the years. He’s excited to bring Mathnasium to the neighborhood and to provide a fun and supportive place for students to discover and develop their math skills. Brent is very proud of his team of friendly and caring instructors, each of whom is dedicated to improving your child's math competence and self-confidence.
Jillian Pierson, Ph.D, Owner/Co-Center Director
For nearly 20 years, Jillian has been a lecturer at USC's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism where she earned her master’s and doctorate degrees. Her BA in psychology is from the University of California Berkeley, but sometimes it seems her real education only began with the birth of Brent and Jillian’s two daughters, who now attend Eagle Rock Junior/Senior High School. Jillian brings her perspectives as both a parent and an educator to Mathnasium, where she is pleased to give kids an opportunity to learn math in a way that makes sense to them.

Born and raised in the Eagle Rock/Glassell Park area, Cathy loves jogging, hiking, cooking and spending quality time with her family.
Casey Shatraw, Instructor
Casey is home for the summer from Emerson College in Boston where he's majoring in media arts production. His goal is to be a film and television editor. A natural mathematician, Chelle has always seen numbers as a way of making sense of the world. A longtime athlete, Chris is always looking for a good pick-up basketball game.
