Owner
Kaitlin graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and began her career at a global banking institution in New York City. While working there, she learned about Mathnasium and was inspired to combine her love of math with her dream of owning a business. She opened her first center in 2013 and now owns four in the New York area.
Kaitlin is passionate about helping students transform discouragement into confidence. She loves watching students grow at Mathnasium and hopes each child develops the same love of math that she carries. In her free time, she enjoys exploring New York’s neighborhoods and traveling whenever possible.
Nicholas Burns
Center Director
Nicholas's tutoring and teaching experience spans from first grade to the college level. He has taught math, English, and social science to students in New York, Boston, and Los Angeles, boosting grades and test scores. His education includes philosophy studies at Tufts University and behavioral science graduate research at Boston University.
Alice Yee
Instructor
Alice is a sophomore Roosevelt Scholar and Thomas Hunter Honors student at Hunter College, where she is pursuing degrees in Urban Studies, Sustainable Development, and Public Policy. As a former Mathnasium student herself, Alice understands the impact that individualized instruction can have on a student's confidence and success in math.
Over the past four years as a Mathnasium instructor, Alice has refined her ability to support students in reaching their unique mathematical goals. She strives to help students build connections between concepts they already understand and new material, making math both clear and enjoyable. Outside of Mathnasium, Alice enjoys learning languages, including Spanish and American Sign Language, competing in varsity fencing, and crocheting small plushies.
Aron Carranza
Instructor
Aron is currently a senior at New York University majoring in Mathematics. His academic background has provided him with a strong foundation in analytical thinking and problem-solving, skills that he brings into every session with students. With over three years of tutoring experience, Aron has worked with learners ranging from elementary school through college.
As a Mathnasium instructor, Aron is dedicated to creating a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence, and strengthening their math skills. What he enjoys most about teaching is helping students experience those rewarding “aha” moments when challenging concepts finally click. He loves watching students grow in both their mathematical abilities and their confidence, developing a more positive relationship with math along the way.
Benjamin Yee

Benjamin started learning math at Mathnasium at a young age and is currently continuing to learn math through high school. He had a natural curiosity for the world around him and how things worked. This curiosity was further boosted when he joined as a student at Mathnasium. At Mathnasium he was inspired by his instructor's passion and interest for math. With the inspiration to pursue math by his instructors Benjamin decided to join math clubs and teams. Benjamin enjoys not only math but cooking, running, archery, comic books, and games.
Chuu Htet Naing
Instructor
Chuu graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Biological Sciences and is currently preparing for medical school. Her passion for mathematics began at a young age, and throughout high school she actively participated in math clubs and mathematics competitions, strengthening her analytical and problem-solving skills. Outside of academics, Chuu enjoys playing badminton, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family.
At Mathnasium, Chuu loves helping students develop confidence in their mathematical abilities and discover the satisfaction of solving challenging problems. After graduating, she volunteered as a Math and Science teacher at her former school and has continued tutoring students ever since. With years of tutoring experience, she has developed effective teaching strategies and is dedicated to creating a supportive learning environment where students can build strong skills and achieve academic success.
Liyana Islam
Instructor
Liyana Islam is a current Computer Science student at New York Institute of Technology. She has experience tutoring Algebra to 9th and 10th-grade students, helping them work through homework problems and better understand challenging concepts. She finds it rewarding not just to witness that lightbulb reaction once students grasp a topic but also to see their confidence grow. She hopes to create a positive and inviting environment where students feel motivated to face and overcome challenges.
