We’re getting ready for Square Root Day on May 5th, 2025 with some fun and engaging at-home math activities!
Did You Know?
This rare math holiday "Square Root Day" occurs when the day and the month are both the square root of the last two digits of the year — which only happens 9 times this century! The previous one was 4/4/16, and the next will be 6/6/36. Square Root Day was created by Ron Gordon, a math teacher from California, who wanted to promote interest in numeracy.
To help you and your child celebrate this unique day, we have four Mathnasium activities that you can do at home with your child: Square Fun! (for lower elementary-level students), Crack the Code! (for upper elementary-level students), Squaring Off! (for middle school-level students) and Radical Right Triangles! (for high school-level students). Your child will have the opportunity to practice their number sense, multiplication, problem solving, and even geometry skills!
Select the level-appropriate challenge for your child and then download and print the page below for some math holiday fun! When you’re done, be sure to check your answers against the linked Answer Keys.
