Meet Ethan, a recent Mathematics graduate from the University of Waterloo. For Ethan, math is more than just solving problems—it’s a beautiful language that unlocks fundamental truths and hidden mysteries. He sees its elegance in everyday life and its wide-reaching applications. His passion for teaching began with his sister, and now Ethan enjoys helping others discover the same beauty in math, encouraging a fearless approach to learning and embracing the unknown. He plans to pursue a Master’s in Astrophysics, using math to explore some of the universe’s deepest questions. Beyond math, Ethan enjoys playing guitar, trombone, and violin, and is an avid West Coast swing dancer and board game enthusiast.
Meet Shahil, a recent chemical engineering graduate from Western University. His research involved making biofuel and bioplastics from microalgae, and he hopes to continue working in sustainable research to improve the health of our environment. Raised in Zimbabwe, he is well-versed in various mathematics syllabi, including IGSCE, IB and now the Ontario curriculum. He always had an interest in the subject, and it grew to something he loved when he began to understand why the concepts presented to him worked and their applications to real life. Inspired by his own former tutors and teachers, he wants to give the same experience to his students and help them realise their ability to succeed. He understands the stress not understanding math can cause, and hopes to alleviate it by teaching in a fun, supportive way. Outside of math, Shahil enjoys gardening, squash, swimming, playing piano and ukulele, and making video game music.
Meet Parmida, a high school student with a passion for discovering the beauty and creativity in mathematics. For her, math is more than just numbers, formulas, and getting to the correct answer—rather, it is about engaging the logical mind, making connections between math concepts, uncovering patterns, and finding enjoyment in the process of solving a problem. In her free time, Parmida likes to knit and crochet, lift weights, play the piano and guitar, and spend time with her favourite people. Her goal is to help students find joy in math by instilling a more nuanced, critical understanding of the subject, one that goes beyond rote memorization and allows students to tackle any math problem with confidence
