Hoping next year's math teacher fixes everything? Think again

Jun 17, 2021 | Killarney

First and foremost, Mathnasium of Killarney supports schools & teachers. We celebrate them and reward them based on your feedback. For your children, we work with them hand-in-hand. That’s how we tailor your child’s math learning plan.

What can you do if your child had a poor experience with their math teacher this last school year? This could have been due to your child’s inability to develop a relationship with their teacher or perhaps the teacher’s teaching wasn’t the most effective because it was their first time teaching this grade. Not every math teacher has an equal track record. Maybe the way they taught math did not match your child's learning style?

First things first, let's put one fallacy to bed. The hope that next school year your child will be matched with a better math teacher who will fix the problems from the preceding school year is not realistic, and here's why:

Your child's math struggles from last school year will not be the focus of next school year. And if they were struggling before last school year, the problems from two years ago were part of last year's problem.

So, what's the solution?

Finding an effective summer math program for your child comes into play. Summer is the perfect time for students to fill math foundation gaps because there is no other math work being thrown at them.  Summer allows your child to focus in on the skills they desperately need to strengthen before a new school year, new math teacher and new math concepts are introduced.

What does Mathnasium of Killarney have in store for math students in our community this summer?

Use summer productively--it's a gift the school year can't offer!  Mathnasium of Killarney will make the difference between your child falling further behind and starting September ready with confidence. We've done it before and would be honored to do the same for your student!
