Putting things into groups is a common first math activity for young kids. In fact, most children will begin doing this on their own: pairing crayons with like colours, grouping fruit snacks by flavour, or sorting treats into equal portions to share. Parents can use this natural tendency to sort to help kids begin to recognize and practice math in the real world.
Click here to check out our Math In The Real World Activity on grouping and multiplication. We'll help you look for opportunities while doing activities around the house or running errands to work with your child to solve real world problems and practice their elementary math skills. Let us know in the comments other ways you and your family have used to practice multiplication in everyday life!
