Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Michael Erkau

Owner/Centre Director

Michael Erkau holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and taught in Manitoba for eight years before transitioning to a career in the IT industry. His experience in both education and the private sector has deepened his understanding of how critical math skills are in today’s world.

As a father of three, Michael is passionate about helping children develop confidence through learning. He believes Mathnasium’s unique approach makes math both fun and meaningful, and he’s committed to helping every student reach their full potential through personalized, engaging instruction.

Tyler Gislason

Instructor

Tyler is in the final year of his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, where he has been recognized as a President’s Scholar for the past four years. At university, he organizes study nights for first- and second-year life science students through a student club.
He has been part of the Mathnasium team for several years and especially enjoys teaching algebra, seeing it as a cornerstone of mathematics that sets the foundation for future learning. For Tyler, the most rewarding part of teaching is watching students make progress—a win for both the student and the instructor.
Outside of academics, Tyler enjoys playing piano, spending time outdoors, and playing board games. He believes math can be both fun and rewarding, and he strives to create an encouraging environment for all students.

Kennedy Kochan

Instructor
Kennedy is a second year student at the University of Manitoba. She is currently working on a degree in mathematics and hopes to pursue a career in education. She has always loved helping others with math, and has had many years of tutoring experience. Outside of school she enjoys singing, playing the piano, and going for long walks with her dog. She believes that anyone can learn to excel at math, and hopes to help others do so in a fun and enjoyable way!

Jason Mavolwane

Instructor

Jason is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance and Actuarial Mathematics. In high school, he was awarded a silver certificate in a Math Olympiad contest, showcasing his strong problem-solving skills and passion for mathematics.
With nearly two years of tutoring experience, Jason’s favorite topic to teach is differentiation, as he enjoys how calculus reveals the powerful calculations behind real-world structures like bridges.
Beyond math, Jason enjoys watching legal documentaries and crime investigation series. He believes that math is like a language—through consistent practice and intentional learning, anyone can grow their skills and, as he says, “become the next Euclid.”

Danica Berzenji

Instructor

Danica graduated from Shaftesbury High School in 2024 as an honour roll student with distinction, earning the medal for the highest mark in biology. She is now pursuing a double degree in Mathematics and Education at the University of Winnipeg.
She has volunteered with IRCOM’s homework assistance program, where she supported refugee families and newcomers to Winnipeg. At Mathnasium, her favorite moments are when students proudly share strong test results on a topic she helped them understand.
In her free time, Danica enjoys spending time with her sisters, playing video games, and riding her motorcycle. She loves mathematics for its flexibility and creativity, believing that there is always more than one way to approach a problem.

Jashanpreet Dhulkoti

Instructor

Jashanpreet earned her Bachelor of Science degree, graduating with the distinction of first rank across the province. As part of her university’s Oracle team, she won provincial championships and proudly represented her university.
Coming from a family of educators—including grandparents, an uncle, and a sister who is a mathematics lecturer—she feels that teaching is in her blood. For Jashanpreet, the most meaningful part of teaching math is watching students build confidence as they realize they are capable of more than they imagined.
Her favorite concepts to teach are probability, because of its real-life applications in decision making, and algebra, which she views as the language of mathematics. In her free time, she enjoys exploring new places, spending time with family, and pursuing creative projects.

Excellence Madukwe

Instructor

Excellence earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in Biology, graduating with distinction. While in university, she tutored math and science through the CanU after-school program, helping students strengthen their skills and confidence.
Her favorite math concept to teach is factoring trigonometric functions, because she enjoys guiding students to that exciting “aha” moment when everything finally clicks. She believes that when it comes to math, consistent practice is always the key to success.
Outside of teaching, Excellence is a self-described gym rat and enjoys working through a growing book list. A fun fact about her is that she participated in numerous science fairs throughout middle and high school, which helped spark her love for learning and discovery.

Our Mathnasium Mission
