Q: Tell me about a time when having math skills came in handy
A: I find it hard to think of a time when I am not using math skills. Figuring out how much to pre-pay for gas. Calculating tips and taxes at restaurants. Making adjustments to recipes. Hoping and dreaming about the future and how to pay for it. Math is important everywhere!
Q: Tell me about a memory you have of learning math
A: When I was in first grade, my older sister was learning long division. I only knew how to multiply by 9s, but I demanded to be taught how to do long division, so I learned long division by 9s when I was 6. When I was in later elementary school, my brother taught me how to sing the quadratic formula to the tune of Pop Goes the Weasel. I don't think that my teacher quite knew what to think when I came in singing the quadratic formula.
Q: What are some of the benefits of the Mathnasium Method?
A: The Mathnasium Method focuses students on understanding the mathematical concepts. When they understand WHY something works, they remember it for a lifetime. Students gain a deeper understanding, and continue to use our methods as they grow through the curriculum.
Q: What could Mathnasium have helped you with when you were a student?
A: I would have loved the opportunity to learn math at my own pace. To zoom ahead when I was ready to learn, and to slow down and truly master the topics where I struggled. I would have loved the challenge of learning advanced topics, and the opportunity to get all of my questions answered.
