Let's learn a bit more about what a Comprehensive Assessment at Mathnasium of Avon IN looks like.

Q: What is a comprehensive assessment?

A: A comprehensive assessment is my opportunity to take a snapshot of where a student is on their math journey, looking specifically for current strengths and foundational weaknesses so that I can provide a meaningful learning plan to build confidence, understanding and jumpstart true learning!

Q: What things do you learn about a student when they take a comprehensive assessment?

A: By the time I finish an assessment with a new student, I know specifically the topics that will benefit the student, and exactly what level to start at. But I also know a little about the student's learning style, and how they think about math. I want to make sure that I make a connection to the student so that I know more than just what questions were right or wrong, but also how the student approaches the problems and exactly what is holding them back.

Q: What is a customized learning plan?

A: Every student comes to us at a different point on their math journey. At Mathnasium, we have the luxury to truly meet each student where they are ready to learn and help them to soar. We focus on the topics that the child needs help on and spend less time on the topics that come easily. By customizing each student's learning plan, we maximize learning!

Q: How do you gauge progress?

A: We break every topic down into bite-sized chunks (subtraction with borrowing is broken down into multiple separate topics, each adding a little more complexity), and at the end of each mini topic, we give a 'Mastery Check' to double check that the student can do the work independently. We also go back and re-assess about every two months to confirm that knowledge has been retained.
