Val Senavsky
Center Director
Val holds dual degrees in Chemistry and Music Performance from Carnegie Mellon University. After earning her teaching certificate through Teach for America, she taught math at Columbia High School before joining Mathnasium in 2021. She quickly advanced to Center Director by 2022, thanks to her passion for customizing curriculum and building student confidence.
Outside of work, Val enjoys hiking, skiing, audiobooks, and traveling. She also plays multiple instruments, including French horn and viola. Her favorite number is 9 because it’s odd and has three factors, just like her creative and analytical sides.
Dan Hintz
Regional Director / Co-Owner
Dan has always had a passion for helping people achieve their potential and a calling to teach math. After high school, he earned an Associate of Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, before deciding to serve in the military. He served an Air Force tour in Germany as an F-16 fighter jet mechanic and fell in love with the mission and people. He decided to make the Air Force career and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Math at Central Washington University while attending ROTC. He holds several Master of Science degrees related to his Air Force career. Dan served 22 years in the Air Force, leading thousands of men and women and managing a wide range of logistics programs, including the US President’s Air Force One fleet requirements, and many types of combat aircraft. He retired to spend more time with his wife and 6 children and to begin a lifelong dream of teaching math. He was voted Teacher of the Year by his high school students and earned 100% top ratings as a private tutor. Meanwhile, he was searching for why math seemed so easy to people in other countries but was such a challenge to many Americans. He found the answer at Mathnasium and immediately joined in helping all students gain a true number sense and life-long confidence in math. He has taught, tutored, and coached thousands of youth all his adult life. Dan and his team are committed to helping students grow their math skills and giving them the confidence to be or do whatever they want in life!
Why I love Mathnasium: It's everything a parent could hope for to build a student's confidence... life-changing
Laney Lovrovich
Lead Instructor
Laney is a junior at Boise State studying Mathematics with an emphasis in Secondary Education. A 4.0 student and graduate of Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, WA, she’s passionate about teaching and math.
Outside the classroom, Laney enjoys sports events, arts and crafts, and celebrating her roots—Gig Harbor is still her favorite place in the world. Her favorite number is 1, the number she proudly wore on her volleyball jersey. Laney loves helping students see that math can be both fun and fulfilling.
Mazie Quatrone
Instructor
Some of my favorite classes I've taken were algebraic topology, real analysis, and abstract algebra. I've played/sung in different groups at Boise State like the jazz band, jazz choir, and symphonic winds. I've tutored for 2 years at BSU, ranging courses like college algebra up through introduction to real analysis. I like to play video games and lately I've been getting into some chainmailing (mostly making jewelry).
Fun Fact: I know 70-something digits of pi
Favorite Number, Why?: The golden ratio, which has some fun algebraic properties and ties to the Fibonacci numbers, but is also arguably the most irrational number (being the hardest to approximate rationally).
Education: I'm a math major at BSU with a music minor going into my final semester.
Why I like Mathnasium: I love to help people and show students why I think math is so interesting and important.
Olivia Rutkowski
Instructor
I'm currently taking AP Calculus AB. I am a violinist in the Timberline High School Chamber Orchestra and also in the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and I enjoy playing music with others in my community! I am also a volunteer at the Discovery Center of Idaho. I enjoy baking, crocheting, playing violin, coding, and reading.
Fun Fact: I know 5 programming languages and love making coding projects!
Favorite Number: 0, because even though it represents nothing, it is crucial in understanding math as a whole. Very interesting and different number.
Education: Junior at Timberline High School and will graduate in 2026.
Why I Love Mathnasium: Math helps you develop critical thinking skills and teaches you how to get through challenges, and I enjoy helping others reach their academic goals!
Bianka Hendershot
Instructor
I have taken Integrated 2, and College Math 3 Algebra. I play Volleyball and do Track for my high school, Timberline. I am part of a club named Unified (we coach special ed kids on how to play specific sports) and I am also part of TREE club, which is an environmental club. I earned the highest academic award as top overall student at my junior high school. This year, I got the Southern Idaho Conference Award for maintaining a 4.0 during my volleyball season, I also in December 2024, won student of the month. I absolutely love reading, I read at least 45 minutes every day and on most days more because I love it so much. I also really enjoy crafts, especially crocheting. I like to go rock climbing and other outdoor activities like hiking, camping, etc.
Fun Fact: I can eat an entire box of Cheez-its (it doesn't matter if it is fun, party, or family sized) in under 45 minutes AND
If you combine my bench, back squat, and power clean maxes, you get 335 pounds
Favorite Number, Why?: 6 is my favorite number because it is the month I was born in and it is my volleyball number.
Education: I am a sophomore at Timberline High School. I will graduate in 2027. I really enjoy chemistry and math, of course!
Why I like Mathnasium: I like working at Mathnasium because I love teaching others what I love. Math is such an integral part to all the things I am interested in like any type of science. Teaching has always been an enjoyable thing for me. If I can take something that someone might dislike or even dread and turn it into something they look forward to, that is the best reward.
Emerson Konkol
Instructor
My favorite math class in college was Introduction to Lie Theory, because it relates two seemingly distinct things: Lie groups (ex. rotations of a sphere) and their Lie algebras (ex. the plane tangent to a point of a sphere). We ended up using a bunch of tools we learned from algebra, calculus, and topology, which was super cool! I'm an active member and co-founder of the BSU Latin Dance Club. I was a math tutor at BSU for two years, tutoring anything between college algebra and introductory real analysis. Apart from learning mathematics, I love to cook, dance, and listen to music. I know five styles of latin dance, salsa being my favorite. I also have been learning Spanish as a hobby for the past two years.
Fun Fact: Someone shot a TikTok of me dancing while I was in Colombia, and it went viral!
Favorite Number, Why?: I'm not sure that it is my favorite, but if i = sqrt(-1) is the imaginary number then i^i = 0.207880... which is a real number!
Education: I graduated from BSU in Spring 2024 with my B.S. in Mathematics.
Why I Like Mathnasium: I love to learn, do, and teach math! It's really rewarding to guide students to a better understanding of the world around them and to see the *click* of realization when they do.
