Hi! My name is Sierra Richards and I have the privilege of being the Center Director of Mathnasium of Cherry Hills. I have loved teaching ever since I first discovered Mathnasium in 2012 and have worked on and off for Mathnasium since then. During that time, I have worked as an Instructor, Lead Instructor, Assistant Director, and finally, Center Director. This variety in my experience has given me a great understanding for the needs of everyone that walks through my door!
I went to Colorado School of Mines and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and an interest in Biomechanics but as soon as I graduated, I decided that I enjoyed teaching more than engineering, so I returned to do what I had developed a passion for.
On top of teaching, I absolutely and completely adore animals! Kili and Winter (as seen in my picture) are my absolute joys in life! I'm especially lucky that they get to come to work every day with me!
I grew up around dogs, cats, and horses, and I have a deep passion for all creatures of the world. I’m an avid reader and I also enjoy writing (ask me about what I'm writing sometime). I love getting to know and explore the different worlds that are created through story telling and someday hope to publish my own work.
I love teaching because every student is different and I know that every day is going to be different as well. I love being able to help children gain confidence, not only in math, but in their everyday life. This job allows me to be energetic and playful, which is something I never want to lose. I enjoy getting to know both students and their families and creating a place where learning is fun!
Hi there, I'm James! I moved to Denver from L.A. in 2021 along with the incredible love of my life, Bridgette. My favorite thing about Mathnasium is that it forces me to present the math I know in different ways to different brains. Each day presents the challenge of seeing familiar concepts through new eyes.
In my free time I enjoy playing video games, yoga, cooking, and playing video games (I really like video games). I'm desperately trying to also enjoy all the outdoor activities Coloradans seem to love, but still I remain very much an indoor cat.
Since graduating in 2007 from Harvey Mudd College with a degree in Mathematics I've had a myriad of jobs: from software developer to stage manager to salesman, but my work at Mathnasium has been the most immediately rewarding. To see right away the light of understanding on a student's face, the burst of confidence immediately after, or the improved test scores in the weeks that follow, has been truly invigorating.
Welcome to our Center! I'm excited to get to know you all a little better.
Hi! I'm Ben and I'm a senior at Cherry Creek High School! Math is one of my favorite subjects and I love sharing it with others! While it is something I love, math isn't all I do in my free time. I also love to ski (Keystone is the BEST during the winter), I love to program interesting things, to hang out with my friends, and to go swimming as much as possible.
Teaching is something I've loved to do for a long time. It's always so amazing when the light-bulb goes of in someone's head as they understand a complex topic. I started out teaching programming at a summer camp in 2021 and I've been addicted ever since. I can't wait to help out at Mathnasium now and work with kids in all levels of math!
Hello! My name is Saladin, and I’m a former 5th grade teacher at Aurora Public Schools. I graduated from University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s in Creative Writing and a Master’s in Elementary Education. I’m originally from Los Angeles, where I fell in love with all types of performing, and moved to Denver in 2010. I performed improv with the Circo de Nada production group, performed for 5 years as a cast member in the Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Company, and I currently play drums for two local bands: To Be Astronauts and Soy Celeste. Most importantly, I was the Denver Air Guitar champion in 2020, 2022, and 2023 (I promise, it’s a real thing, and it’s amazing).
In my spare time (ha!) I read a bunch, write a bunch, and play Magic: the Gathering and other needlessly complex games. I’m working on creating a couple games of my own with the EnCompass Improv business. I feel like games are the gateway to almost any emotion, and, when done correctly, can bring out the best in people. I live in South Denver with my beautiful girlfriend and our *very* spoiled cat.
Hello all! My name is Daniel and I am a newer resident to Colorado. Originally I am from Texas, which is where I went to university at Texas State in San Marcos. I got my Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Science, a minor in Physics, and also my teaching certification. I am a scientist and teacher by profession and a nerdy musician when I am not teaching. I can play multiple instruments like the guitar, trumpet, and bass and my favorite type of music to play is rock! I also have a huge love for RPGs, both video games and tabletop. I love it when numbers get bigger.
Math wasn't something I considered interesting at first until I was in a physics class. From that moment, math went from something that made my brain hurt to a tool and language that can be used to represent and describe the actions of the world around us. I hope that I can help as many students learn and appreciate the hidden beauty of math!
Hi! My name is Jennifer. Tutoring math is my second career. I retired in December 2018 after over 20 years as a consulting electrical engineer for a local MEP design firm. Math has been an important part of what I do for my entire life. I loved it as a student, and had some tutoring experience from my college years, so Mathnasium is a great fit for me.
I'm originally from Kansas, and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Architectural Engineering. I'm still an avid KU men's basketball fan-- Go Jayhawks!! I'm an avid reader, love mysteries, and my goal is to read at least 100 books this year. I also love to cook, sing, and have many crafting hobbies. My husband and I have one dog--a crazy rescue Schnauzer mix named Toto.
Throughout my engineering career, one of my favorite things was mentoring a young engineer. The experience of sharing knowledge, and seeing the light "turn on" when a concept is grasped, is very rewarding. Tutoring at Mathnasium gives me the opportunity to experience that process with our students every day.
Hey, I’m Cooper, and I am a student at Cherry Creek High School. I have always felt myself drawn to the field of mathematics and its amazing applications. I am currently taking Differential Equations, Introduction to Real Analysis, and researching Markov chains and stochastic processes. The further along I get in my understanding of math, the more I come to appreciate its elegance, sophistication, and increasingly important place in our daily lives.
Outside of work and the classroom, I spend my time programming, volunteering, playing basketball, and doing things with my friends and family. I especially enjoy watching movies (David Fincher films are some of my favorites), and often lose much of my day to them.
I have always loved tutoring, and I find it to be some of the most gratifying work I do. I can’t wait to extend my love for math, and aid in the development of amazing math skills, to whomever I can!
Hi! I’m Harry, and I’m a high schooler at Colorado Early Colleges. I love math and it’s my favorite subject. I’m very enthusiastic to teach it and help students out with something I enjoy so much! I’m currently in Calculus 3 and working to get better every day!
Outside of work and school, you can find me hiking, biking, driving, and in general just having a fun time with friends! I love coding and engineering and I’m working on becoming an engineer major. I love teaching and working with kids, it’s such a great feeling to help students understand something!
Hi, I’m Gavin, and I go to Cherry Creek High School. I’ve loved math ever since I was little, and I’m so happy I can share my love for math with kids of all ages and levels. In my free time I swim (a lot) and I love to hang out with friends and read any book I can get my hands on. I also enjoy hiking, skiing, and every other outdoor activity you can think of in Colorado.
Helping kids enjoy math has always been a dream for me, and now I can finally live it. I love helping students figure out equations, solve logic problems, and I love seeing the smile on their face when they finally solve the problem they’ve been stuck on. Seeing the different ways people think and how their brains function has always been one of my passions. I’m excited to teach and learn from everyone who comes into the center!”
Hi, I’m Micah, I'm in high school at Thomas Jefferson. I am personally enthusiastic about math, and hope my work can help to spread its beautiful nuance, through proof and intuition. It is my mission to help my students achieve a complex understanding and love of mathematics. Currently, I am learning differential equations, and I am excited to move forward in my mathematical education.
When I am not working, you will find me both road and mountain biking, building and coding robots for my school’s SpartaRobotic 3648 team, cooking various dishes, and you guessed it, doing math for fun! If you’re lucky you may even catch me biking or unicycling to work as I often do.
I hope to meet you soon!
