The Mathnasium program starts off with an initial assessment. This is an opportunity for the student to demonstrate their math skills within the safety of the learning center and also evaluate whether the program would be a good fit for them. The experience of the initial assessment can be compared to a doctor's visit where the doctor will diagnose the problems before prescribing any medications. The Center Director plays the role of the 'math' doctor and evaluates the student's math strengths and weaknesses. Parents use this opportunity to learn more about the program and also evaluate whether it is a good fit for their family. Once the results of the assessment are reviewed with the family, they walk away not just with a better understanding of the gaps in the student's math understanding, but also with a learning plan designed to help the student bridge those skill gaps. The student feels content and happy for putting in the effort and leaves the center with a well-deserved reward!
