Q1: How does your center make math fun and engaging for students?
A1: We show our students that we are excited about teaching math; we play and teach games to build foundational or repetitive skills; we get student input for prizes and topics they want to learn; we use gentle correction; we make the work appropriately challenging, and we celebrate small wins.
Q2: What does Pi Day mean to your students and instructors?
A2: Pi Day is a day we look forward to each year! We have special Pi Day hands-on activities that culminate with each student getting their own personal pie!
Q3: How do celebrations help students feel more confident in math?
A3: So much of the time, school tends to focus on the wrong answers. We celebrate small wins like when a student finally understands a skill they have been working hard on or improvement in math scores. Real praise for small achievements help students focus on growth.
Q4: Why is it important to show kids that math can be enjoyable?
A4: We use math skills all the time in everyday life, from buying groceries to baking, to party planning to building things, and more! Making math enjoyable removes anxiety and builds confidence!
