Let's learn a bit more about what a Comprehensive Assessment at Mathnasium of Greenville Downtown, South Carolina looks like.

Q: What is a comprehensive assessment?

A: Our comprehensive assessment (60-90 mins) pinpoints your child’s exact strengths and weaknesses. It is given to our students at the beginning of their first session.

Q: What things do you learn about a student when they take a comprehensive assessment?

A: We are able to see the topics the students have mastered and the concepts they need help and reinforcement with.

Q: What is a customized learning plan?

A: A customized learning plan is used to guide the instruction of students. Each learning plan is unique to a student's needs. If George struggles with finger counting, then we would address it with addition and subtraction numeric fluency. Instructors would then teach and reinforce tricks so he will no longer rely on finger counting.

Q: How do you gauge progress?

A: At the end of a concept, students will take a mastery check, which is a quiz on the topic. They will not receive help from instructors on their mastery check. If they scored an 85% or higher on their mastery check, then they have mastered the concept. If they scored lower, we would re-add the concept until they master it. Every 30 sessions, we give students progress checks which contain questions on all concepts they have mastered. This allows us to measure retention which is important as math builds upon itself.
