1. What is the most common thing you see in new students coming to Mathnasium for the first time?

A: The thing I notice about new students when they first come to Mathnasium is they are intimidated by math and have a lack of confidence that they can succeed. I love to see the smiles when they start understanding and doing what was once too hard.

2. If there was one thing you could tell parents before they bring their student to Mathnasium what would it be?

A: Mathnasium is a place for growth, learning, and fun. After all, learning should be fun!

3. What things do the most successful students have in common?

A: The most successful students come into the center often! They think instead of guessing and they work carefully instead of making careless errors.

4. What are some of the ways you teach math to your students?

A: When I am teaching, I like to have a variety of tools in my toolbelt. I ask questions, give examples or use manipulatives when needed. I also like to draw pictures; it really helps students visualize what the problem is asking of them.

5. What do you think is the coolest thing about Mathnasium?

A: The coolest things about Mathnasium is how kids get immediate feedback on their work and get rewards for their work. These two things are essential for validating students in their learning. Of course, the rewards cabinet is amazing and we are always playing games!
