Alex Guppy

Owner
Alex received his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Kalamazoo College in Michigan. Shortly after graduating, Alex moved abroad to teach English in Taiwan - an adventure turned odyssey that lasted the next six years. When he was not teaching and having fun with his students, he was exploring the mountains and streams of the island. Eventually, home called and Alex returned to the States in 2013. In the Fall of 2014, Alex visited Chattanooga for a rock-climbing trip. As the season passed by and frost began to accumulate on his tent each morning in Prentice Cooper State Park, Alex contemplated returning home to Michigan for the holidays, but then applied for a center director position at Mathnasium on a whim. He cannot help but look back on his humble beginnings as a math tutor here in amazement. At the beginning of 2018, Alex became the sole owner of both Mathnasiums in Chattanooga and has since gone on to open or purchase three more in Williamson County. Alex is honored by all of the parents who have entrusted the safety and education of their children to him over the years to help him realize his dream of owning his own business. He is looking forward to providing math homework help to many more children in the coming years as he works hard to provide a wonderful experience for his students and reach their full potential in math.

Vickie Ennis

Instructor
Vickie loves math because there is only one answer (well usually!) She has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and psychology from The University of Pennsylvania and received her doctorate in Biomedical Sciences from the University of California, San Diego. After her studies, she did a post-doctoral fellowship at The Salk Institute and later worked as a cell biologist at the University of California, Irvine . She has two grown children and lives in Hendersonville with her husband. She loves sharing ideas to make math easier and has always enjoyed working with children and teenagers.

Sonny Blackwell

Instructor
Sonny enjoys math because it helps with his taxes. He is currently enrolled at Beech Senior High School, and he is in 12th grade. He is in the chess club, beech patrol, and DECA. He is also vice president of the student body at Beech High-school. After high school, he plans on a career in clinical research. He enjoys watching others learn and expand his own knowledge as well. He can teach up to Algebra 2.

Parth Patel

Instructor
Parth is in high school and has taken every level of math possible that my school offers. He enjoys doing math and teaching it. Outside of academics, he loves to play soccer and basketball.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
