Q1: What’s one way your center makes summer learning fun and engaging for students??
A: We give each student the option to play games after their session for 30 minutes; our most popular game is Uno by far!
We have at least 3 fun days each week. Fun days range from trivia to snacks to games to recognizing lesser known holidays!
Finally, we have music in the center throughout the day to make sure the vibe is always light!
Q2: What’s a moment this summer that reminded you why you love working with students?
A: It's so hard to pick just one moment! So far this summer, we've had students who attend all year excited to show us their skills during game-time, seasonal students excited to show us what they've learned over the last school year, and new students who are excited to do as many pages as possible!
Q3: Why do you think summer is such a powerful time for students to build math skills?
A: During the summer, we see the most progress in our students. I believe a variety of factors play into this. There is no homework, so we make amazing progress filling in learning gaps. Students have more downtime, so we see them more often. Finally, students are able to keep their skills sharp, so we see less need to go back and relearn.
