Mathnasium of Littleton tells us how they celebrate the success of their students

Q: How does Mathnasium celebrate its student's success?

A: We have so many ways of celebrating our students' successes starting with rewards, stickers and stamps for completing 5 power pages in a session! Then, when a child has finished a concept packet and they get 100% on the Mastery Check (like a quiz), they get to ring the bell and spin the rewards wheel. The whole center stops what they are doing and everyone gives that student a round of applause for their accomplishment! Our team votes for students of the month and year, and they are rewarded with extra stamp cards, the chance to sit in an instructor chair for the month, a certificate, and their name is put on a plaque at the front of our center. Children who earn 100% on a math test or quiz at school (or at our center) get their name put in a jar for our quarterly $100 for 100% drawing. The student's name which is drawn from the jar gets a crisp, brand-new $100 bill! Students who complete at least 3 pages in a session AND make no errors with minimal help on those pages get their names put into the No Errors Club Jar, and a name is drawn from this jar monthly. The student whose name is drawn gets $15 worth of stamp cards! We also have a Brag Board featured at the front of our center. Students can display math test results, as well as, other things they are proud of, such as winning a diving competition or breaking their PR in the 500 meter backstroke. Finally, the small wins count just as much as the big successes so our team focuses on catching kids doing what they should in math - asking questions, labeling answers, trying problems they feel are "too hard" etc and they earn praise for their work and effort, along with extra reward stamps!

Q: Tell me about student’s reactions to having their work on the brag board.

A: Students like having their accomplishments displayed and/or praised.

Q: What kind of work gets put up?

A: As mentioned above, students can display aced Math tests, improved iReady or MAP scores, accomplishments in sports or music. Really, anything they are proud of can be placed on the Brag Board!

Q: Do you have a favorite memory of the Brag Board?

A: No specific memory comes to mind at this time, as all of our students are accomplished in many areas of their lives, and we are constantly bragging about them!

We'd love to make your student a success story too! Visit our website for more information today. ---"
