Mathnasium Offers Workout For the Mind

Oct 10, 2015 | Lutz

At Mathnasium, we focus on improving the math concepts and skills rather than rote learning which is a memorization technique based on repetition.

So for example if you were to do 99+99+99, we ask the kid not to do straight addition and think of it as (100-1), 3 times....which is 300-3 and equals to 297. So, we basically try to teach the kid, unique and easier  ways to solve math problems and help improve their logical thinking and mathematical concepts.

These unique and easier techniques are a culmination of 40 years of research done by Larry Martinek, one of the co-founders at Mathnasium.

Instead of relying on memorization and repetition, Larry's approach focused on helping children build deep mathematical understanding through a combination of mental, visual, verbal, tactile, and written exercises.
