Let’s Play Chess!

Chess is more than a game. It’s a fun way for students to practice strategy, problem-solving, focus, logical thinking, and planning—skills that also play an important role in learning math.

At Mathnasium of Marysville, we enjoy giving students opportunities to play, learn, and challenge themselves through chess. Whether they are experienced players or just learning the basics, chess gives students another way to practice thinking through problems and making decisions.

Why Chess and Math Go Together

Chess and math may seem like very different subjects, but they have a lot in common.

In both, students need to look for patterns, think ahead, consider different possibilities, and use logic to find a solution. A chess player has to think about what could happen several moves ahead, while a math student may need to decide which strategy or process will help solve a problem.

Both also require patience and practice. Making a mistake in chess or getting a math problem wrong is an opportunity to stop, think about what happened, and try a different approach.

These shared skills make chess a natural complement to the problem-solving and critical-thinking skills students practice at Mathnasium.

Celebrating Our Recent Chess Tournament

On August 30th, 2026 we hosted a chess tournament at Mathnasium of Marysville. Students came together for an afternoon of friendly competition, strategy, and fun.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and supported our players! We appreciate everyone who helped make the event such a great experience.

Congratulations to our tournament winners:

After the tournament, our winners got to visit our Mathnasium Reward Cabinet and use their Reward Cards to choose a prize from our selection. We loved seeing them check out the options and pick the prizes they wanted most!
