Summer Fun Lessons
We are gearing up for an awesome summer and to help all of our students beat the Summer Slide, we are introducing something a little extra: Summer FUN! Lessons!
Summer is synonymous with fun, relaxation, and for many students, a break from the rigors of school. However, research suggests that this extended hiatus from academics, particularly in math, can lead to a phenomenon known as the "summer slide" – a decline in academic skills over the summer months. A recent study conducted by researchers at the Harvard Graduate School of Education sheds light on the effectiveness of summer math programs in combating the summer slide. The study found that students who participated in high-quality summer math programs not only prevented learning loss but actually made significant gains in math skills compared to their peers who did not attend such programs. So, what makes summer math programs so effective? One key factor is the immersive and engaging learning environment they provide. Unlike traditional classrooms, summer math programs often incorporate hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and real-world applications to make learning math both enjoyable and meaningful. By making math relevant to students' lives and interests, these programs help cultivate a positive attitude towards math and instill a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
Furthermore, summer math programs can address individual learning needs and provide targeted support to students who may be struggling in math. Whether it's through small group instruction, one-on-one tutoring, or personalized learning plans, these programs can tailor their approach to meet the unique needs of each student, helping them build confidence and master essential math skills. But perhaps the most significant advantage of summer math programs is their ability to keep students academically engaged during the summer months. By providing structured learning opportunities and maintaining a consistent routine, these programs help prevent the loss of academic skills that often occurs during extended breaks from school. Instead of starting the new school year playing catch-up, students who participate in summer math programs are better prepared to hit the ground running and build upon their previous knowledge.
At Mathnasium, we're committed to harnessing the power of summer math to empower students and set them up for success. Our summer programs are designed to make math fun while equipping students with the skills they need to excel in math and beyond.
Mathnasium Learning Centers start students off with an individual assessment which pinpoints a child’s exact strengths and weaknesses. A customized learning plan is then created, detailing the specific math concepts the child needs to catch up, keep up, and even get ahead. Attentive, highly trained instructors teach students face-to-face at the pace that’s right for them. And both in-center and online learning is available. So why let the summer slide hold your child back when they can soar to new heights with summer math?
