Navigating Fall Transitions and Building Math Confidence at Mathnasium of Mount Prospect

Oct 23, 2026 | Mount Prospect

As we settle deep into the fall semester, families are adjusting to new routines, schedules, and academic expectations. Here at Mathnasium of Mount Prospect, we love connecting with our community to share updates, celebrate milestones, and help students find their footing as the school year rolls on.

What We’re Hearing: Understanding iReady Results

With early-year testing now behind us, the most common topic of conversation with parents has been iReady results. Because this test is administered so early in the school year, many students struggle, and their results are often less than optimal. It’s common for these early assessments to highlight foundational gaps, but they also offer a clear roadmap for where targeted support can make an immediate impact.

Tackling the Summer Slide and Building Confidence

The biggest hurdle we see students face at this time of year isn't a lack of capability—it’s a lack of confidence. The lingering effects of the "summer slide" contribute heavily to this dip in self-assurance. When students haven't touched math over the summer break, returning to a new grade, a new schedule, a new teacher, and sometimes even a new school can feel overwhelming.

However, we always remind parents that this is a season of transition. With the right help, a bit of patience, and dedicated hard work, students quickly find their rhythm and rebuild their confidence.

What’s Happening at the Center

There is always something exciting going on at our center! We are thrilled to welcome our newest students to the Mathnasium family.

We are also gearing up for our upcoming Bring-A-Friend Week (October 26th-29th), which will coincide with a week full of fun Halloween activities. Students can look forward to:

  • A ball toss game

  • Our giant Connect Four game

  • A football bean bag toss

  • Goodie bags and much more

Community Connection: Trick-or-Treat Trails

We always love getting out into the neighborhood! We recently participated in the Mount Prospect Park District's Trick-or-Treat Trails, and we had a fantastic time meeting so many local families. It was wonderful to play fun math games with kids dressed in incredible costumes. A special highlight was getting photos with our skeleton friend, Bones—who loves math just as much as we do!

Stop by the center or check us out on Instagram to see what we're up to next, and feel free to leave us a Google Review if your student is thriving with us!
