Student Highlight - Agastya

Dec 29, 2023 | Napa

We took some time to get to know Agastya and his dad, Naresh, to learn more about their experience at Mathnasium of Napa.

Agastya has been attending Mathnasium of Napa since 2020. He is in second grade and typically visits the center three times per week. He enjoys coming to Mathnasium and says he feels confident in his mathematical skills. He wants to be a surgeon when he grows up.

How did you find Mathnasium and why were you looking for a math tutor?

Naresh: Agastya’s mom worked on math with him at home, but we were looking for extra practice and more so different perspectives to develop his foundation. He enjoys math, so it was motivating us to find a place for him to learn more. We found Mathnasium through a Google Search. Location was key in our search and Mathnasium was a great fit.

What is your favorite part of Mathnasium?

Agastya: Getting points and rewards! The best prize I’ve earned was a baseball bat for 8 cards. We go to the park and play with it.

Naresh: I like the individual attention that the students receive, even though it is not specifically one-to-one tutoring. The various tutors at the center have really come to see his strengths and weaknesses and push him where it’s needed. He is in second grade, but is understanding third grade math. The tutors also take time to review the lower grade levels to confirm that his understanding of the foundations is strong.

What is your favorite subject in math?

Agastya: Addition because I can add up so fast!

How often do you go to Mathnasium?

Agastya: Three times a week.

Naresh: The flexibility is helpful. We try to go three times a week, but if we can’t make it, we are able to make up those sessions at later dates.

What is your routine when you go to Mathnasium?

Agastya: I greet my teacher, get my binder and sit down. I like the front row because it’s a little quieter. I like working in my binder.

Any final thoughts?

Naresh: Overall we are very pleased with Mathnasium and enjoy sending Agastya to the center.
