Mathnasium of New City's personalized algebra tutoring programs are designed to support students at every stage of their math journey.
Following personalized learning plans, we guide students from concrete to abstract thinking, mastering integers, fractions, order of operations, and variables while developing the algebraic reasoning foundations critical for Algebra 1.
Students receive caring support through multi-step equations, linear functions, graphing, and word problems, building both skills and confidence in this pivotal course that shapes their entire math trajectory.
We prepare students for advanced coursework by tackling fast-paced topics—factoring polynomials, quadratics, exponentials, and logarithms—strengthening problem-solving abilities needed for Precalculus and college-level math.
At Mathnasium of New City, our specially trained math tutors help students of all skill levels learn and master algebra, from foundational concepts to advanced algebraic equations.
We work with students enrolled in Prealgebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2, providing personalized, face-to-face instruction in a caring and fun group environment. Our tutors meet each student where they are, helping them fill in knowledge gaps, build foundational skills, and build the confidence to tackle new challenges.
We use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach that combines diagnostic assessments, personalized learning plans, and proven interactive techniques to teach algebra in a way that makes sense.
Our tutors start with what each student already knows and build upon that foundation, introducing algebraic concepts gradually to promote deep understanding and long-term retention. By focusing on clarity, logic, and step-by-step learning, we help students truly understand, and even enjoy, how algebra works.
Students begin their Mathnasium journey with a diagnostic assessment that helps us pinpoint their current skill level, learning style, and academic goals. Using these insights, we create a personalized learning plan that addresses each student’s specific needs, whether they’re looking to catch up, keep up, or get ahead.
Our tutors follow each plan closely and adapt instruction in real time, ensuring steady progress and lasting confidence. Students advance at a pace that allows them to truly understand the concepts they’re working with and develop a deeper appreciation for algebra.

Whether your student is in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, or Algebra 2, we create a personalized learning plan built around what they specifically need.
Yes! Mathnasium of New City works with students at both levels.
Middle school students are often developing the foundational skills that algebra builds on, while high school students are navigating dedicated coursework in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and beyond. Our caring tutors tailor instruction to each student's grade level, current course, and individual goals.
We use the Mathnasium Method™, a proprietary teaching approach founded on the idea that every student can understand and enjoy math when it's taught in a way that makes sense to them.
Rather than emphasizing rote procedures, we make sure students understand the logic behind algebraic concepts. That kind of deep understanding, knowing not just the steps but the reasoning, is what allows students to tackle unfamiliar problems, connect ideas across topics, and carry their algebra skills confidently into more advanced coursework.
Every student begins with a comprehensive assessment, and instruction is fully personalized from there.
Absolutely. Algebra trips up a lot of students, and the cause is frequent gaps in earlier math, like working with fractions, understanding negative numbers, or applying order of operations correctly. These gaps tend to accumulate, making each new algebra topic feel harder than it should.
We start with a thorough diagnostic assessment to identify exactly where your student is struggling, then build a learning plan that addresses those gaps at the root. Once the foundational skills are solid, algebra tends to become much more manageable, and students' confidence usually follows close behind.
Mathnasium of New City works with advanced math students just as readily as those who are struggling. For students who have mastered their current algebra coursework, we offer enrichment that goes beyond what's covered in school, introducing more advanced material, deepening conceptual understanding, and building toward courses like Geometry, Precalculus, and beyond.
We also help motivated students get a head start on the algebraic reasoning skills that feature heavily on the SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT® math sections.
Yes, we set aside time for homework help during each session.
During this part of the session, we focus on making sure students understand the concepts well enough to approach similar problems independently so homework becomes meaningful practice rather than a nightly struggle.
As a test or final exam approaches, we can tailor instruction to the specific topics and problem types it will cover. For high school students in the Clarkstown district, that includes preparation for the New York Regents Algebra exam, a key milestone aligned to New York's Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards.
Because our approach is rooted in solid understanding rather than memorization, students are better equipped to work through the full range of questions they'll encounter, including multi-step problems and those that ask them to apply concepts in unfamiliar ways.
Students can join live, face-to-face online sessions with our caring New City tutors and follow the same personalized learning plan they would work through in the center. The instruction and individual attention are consistent regardless of how students choose to attend.
Both formats deliver the same personalized learning plan and face-to-face instruction from our caring tutors. Many families in New City and the surrounding Rockland County area find that blending in-center and online sessions offers the flexibility they need to keep learning on track throughout the school year.
