Q: How do you know what kind of math students in your center/re need to be taught?
A: When students first start with us, they take a comprehensive assessment, which is essentially a test to see exactly what areas they understand and to what capacity. Topics that they haven't quite mastered yet, whether they be from this school year or a previous one, become part of their learning plan, which is a customized curriculum specifically designed for that student.
Q: Why do students need to take tests?
A: Our assessments are designed to ease the fear of math - they are not for a grade; however, they are designed to identify specific areas students could improve upon, that will build a better foundation on which to understand math moving forward.
Q: Can Mathnasium help students prepare for their tests in math class?
A: Absolutely! During a student's Mathnasium session, they will be practicing skills that will benefit their understanding of school material. Additionally, they will have time during their session to deal with schoolwork, so if they have a test review or study material, we can take time to review that with them!
Q: What about College Placement Tests?
A: We have assessments and curriculum that are specifically designed for preparing for college placement tests such as the PSAT and SAT. One of our students, Julie, is actively preparing for the PSAT now, and is reporting increases in confidence and abilities as we approach the test!
