Q: What is the first thing a brand new student does at your center?
A: As soon as you enter our center, you can't help but notice all the amazing rewards a student can earn at Mathnasium of Nutley! That is typically the first question I get from many kids, ""What are all these prizes for and how can I get them?"" Once we are settled on that, each child takes a comprehensive written assessment based on which we create their customized learning plan.
Q: What is the comprehensive assessment? How long does it take to finish?
A: Our diagnostic skills assessment lets us know where your child is in math so we can pinpoint any gaps and create a customized learning plan. After a few oral questions to figure out their current math skill level, the Center Director will administer a comprehensive written assessment. Students are encouraged to try their best and leave the questions they are unable to solve. For our advanced students who are looking for more of a challenge in math, we will give them an assessment higher than their current grade level.
Once they are done, the Center Director will share the results of the assessment as well as their learning plan with the guardian. The entire assessment can take about 60-75 minutes depending on the students' grade level.
Q: How often should I bring my student to Mathnasium of Nutley?
A: We offer flexible class attendance of either 2 or 3 times per week. Each class is one hour.
Q: Who are the people teaching my child?
A: Our instructors are members of your community who have a true appreciation for math. They receive extensive training in our proprietary Mathnasium Method, which effectively teaches math in a way that makes sense to kids. Many of them are current college students or recent graduates. We also have a retired gentleman from Nutley who is great at math and loves to teach children! Please visit our team page to meet our amazing instructors.
Our Instructors + Our Method = Awesome Results!
Q: When can I bring my child into Mathnasium of Nutley?
A: We are open 3-7pm Monday to Thursday and 10am-1pm on Saturday's. We know how busy kids are these days with extracurricular activities and how overwhelmed parents are taking them around. So we provide full flexibility for scheduling Mathnasium classes. Once enrolled, parents will be set up with an account where they can schedule classes based on their child's availability. If coming to the center is a challenge, we also offer the same great learning experience through our virtual learning platform.
Q: How do you motivate your students at Mathnasium of Nutley?
A: Once the student sees their own confidence and grades in math improving, they are motivated themselves to work hard at Mathnasium. In addition, the rewards they earn for doing math and the spin wheel for mastering concepts, are some of the fun ways we celebrate small victories. When students do well in math in school, they bring in their test and we put it up on our ""Brag Board"". Kids love to see themselves there and makes them feel proud of their achievements. At our center, we have a daily fun activity calendar and time permitting we will also play a quick math game!
