1. Our favorite “aha!” moment with a student.

A: One “aha!” moment I remember is teaching a student how to find the common denominator when adding/subtracting fractions. It’s an important skill that many students find challenging and every time I get to teach a student, it’s a great feeling when they finally understand. – Ryan (Instructor)

2. A time when a student earned a reward.

A: One time a student came in and worked really hard to get their 30th card for a stuffed animal reward. When she got that reward, she was very excited and happy. That day, she came with the intention of finishing the 2 cards she needed and worked hard to complete over 10 pages for it. – Ryan (Instructor)

3. Positive parent experience.

A: Whenever Logan comes in for a class, his dad trusts me to help him to his seat and also teach him good manners such as pushing in his chair. At the end of a productive class, his father is very appreciative when Logan tells him what he learned that day and also that he completed his school homework that I helped with. – Daniel (Instructor)

4. Favorite ways to teach concepts.

A: One concept I like teaching is multiplying with zeroes. I enjoy showing a student that if you multiply the non-zero digits and then just add the number of zeroes at the end, you get the answer! Elementary students new to multiplication are completely amazed when they learn this trick. – Daniel (Instructor)

5. A time when a student scored well on a test.

A: There have been many times when a student comes in to prepare for a test/quiz and have a hard time answering any of the questions given. After teaching them and getting them to a point where they feel comfortable enough to solve them on their own, we finish up with the review. The next time they come in and say they scored well with an 85 or over, it feels great to know that I helped them grasp that concept in math and shows that they really listened and learned. – Ryan (Instructor)
