Q: What is the first thing a new student would do upon entering Mathnasium?
A: When a student first comes to Mathnasium, we give them a tour of the Center, being sure to stop by the Rewards cabinet to explain that they can earn prizes for all of their hard work here. Then, they get to see what the instruction floor looks like before settling in to take an assessment so we can build them a personalized learning plan.
Q: What does the first session look like for new students?
A: At each student's first session, they are introduced to their first instructor, who guides them through the technology platform we use to display their work on a digital whiteboard. We will also explain to them how stars/cards are earned and the process through which cards can be redeemed for rewards.
Q: Have you seen a student’s attitude towards math change?
A: I remember when Kelly came for her assessment visit. She was tired, a little grumpy, and certainly did NOT want to be here. Fast forward two years, and her confidence has skyrocketed. She's excelling in math, and actually, all of high school now.
Q: What do you wish students and parents knew before they brought their student to your center?
A: I wish that all students and parents knew that it can take time to see growth and improvement, especially at school, if the child is considerably behind. With regular attendance and continued effort though, every child can reach greater heights in math. I also wish more parents knew that we also serve students seeking enrichment and can give them the increased challenge they are ready for to keep them engaged with math.
