What is Math Night@home?

Mar 30, 2021 | Oak Creek

Our Math Night@home is a condensed version of Mathnasium's typical Math Night experience. Instead of a school gym or cafeteria, however, this family engagement event is held on Zoom. Mathnasium of Oak Creek is excited to partner with local school PTO/PTAs to conduct this event - for free!

School/Parent Organization's Responsibilities: Picking a date and promoting the event to all families. That's all that's required. Some parent groups have contributed an additional prize or two, but that is absolutely optional.

Mathnasium of Oak Creek's Responsibilities: Mathnasium will provide some sample marketing text and an online event scheduling link prior to Math Night. On Math Night, we will provide all of the staff, the Zoom link, and run the games. In addition, we will offer a prize for one randomly selected family!

Attendee's Responsibilities: Sign up. Assemble a few materials (dice, playing cards, post-its or scrap paper and something to write with). Show up. Have fun!
Note: For maximum fun, gather the entire family for the event and play the fun math games together

What happens during Math Night@home?

All attendees will initially be greeted as a group in the Zoom "lobby," then each will be assigned to one of four breakout rooms. Four Mathnasium instructors will rotate through the breakouts, spending 10 minutes with each group playing one of four Math games. At the end of the fourth game, everyone will be moved back to the main room to share their favorite games!

Why does Mathnasium do this for free?

Our goal is to get to know local families, support local schools and show everyone that math can be fun!

Will there ever be in person Math Nights?

We sure hope so!

When the world gets back to whatever normal is going to be, and in person events at schools are possible again, we would love to schedule an In Person Math Night!
