Lindsey's Secret: She Brings Her Child to Mathnasium

Nov 18, 2016 | Parker

Why is that a secret? Because Lindsey teaches high school math. This is the story of a great math teacher who could not help her own daughter, Jasmine.

Jasmine enrolled in advanced math in sixth grade. She might not have been ready but Lindsey pushed her thinking she could help Jasmine when necessary.

Lindsey has the utmost patience with her students and has success teaching advanced math concepts to children in her classroom. She knows she should be able to help her own daughter. She could help her . . .  if only her daughter would listen to her.

Jasmine, is a model student in school - goes to class every day, listens, takes notes, and does her homework.
But Jasmine never asked for help. Lindsey figured everything was fine, until she got a call from Jasmine's teacher. She told her Jasmine got a D on her last two tests. The teacher recommended that Jasmine get extra help. Lindsey decided to start tutoring her own daughter in math. It would be less expensive than hiring a tutor, she thought.

The first night of tutoring went okay. After that, things went downhill pretty quickly. Doors slammed. Eyes rolled. Tears flowed. Lindsey decided to hire someone to help Jasmine so that she and her daughter could restore their relationship. She researched and read about tutors and math centers in her neighborhood. She liked the methods and curriculum of Mathnasium.

She brought Jasmine in to Mathnasium of Parker for a no-risk assessment. Initially, Jasmine was reluctant because she was starting to feel embarrassed about her challenges in math and didn't really like math all that much anymore. By the end of her assessment, Jasmine claimed, "it had been fun!" and asked to come in for a free trial session to see if she liked the instructors. She did and Lindsey signed her up.

Lindsey felt a little bit embarrassed that she couldn’t help Jasmine herself but decided the money spent on Mathnasium was worth every penny. She and Jasmine no longer fought over math homework. Jasmine was excited to go to Mathnasium every time they pulled into the parking lot, and Jasmine's confidence about math was improving as were her skills.
