Some of my favorite numbers are fractions, because they can be fun to work with! My favorite math subjects to teach are sixth and seventh-grade math. Outside of the center, I love to sing. My favorite local treats are the sipping chocolates from The Chocolate Palette in Leesburg. Sipping chocolates are rich hot chocolates made with melted chocolate!

Ana G.

Administrative Assistant

My favorite number is 17 because it is my lucky number, St. Patrick's Day, and the day I was born! Geometry is my favorite subject to teach because I am a visual learner so I enjoy helping others conceptualize geometric concepts. Outside of the center I love to bake for my family and friends. I also like being outdoors as much as possible - snowboarding in the winter and hiking in the summer. I have a Bachelor's in Science in applied biotechnology. Before Mathnasium I worked as a microbiologist. Ask me what it's like to be a scientist!

My favorite number is 42 as it is the Answer to the Great Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything (from one of my favorite books, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). I like to teach Algebra. One of my favorite moments in Mathnasium was seeing a student use their division skills that they just learned to solve the problem of the week that originally stumped them. I have a cat named Bubo. He is all black except for the white spots on his chest and belly, and his favorite foods are ice cream, hummus, and whipped cream. Outside of the center I like folding origami tessellations and the Mexican hot chocolate from Doppio Bunny Café.

Caden B.

Instructor

My favorite number is 2; it was my jersey number when I hit my first homerun in 2012! I like to teach Algebra. I am a licensed teacher with a degree in Education from Roanoke College ('22) and I love working with SPED. I have a cat named Clara, after the Doctor Who companion. Outside of the center I like to write, especially writing about nature.

Carter A.

Instructor

My favorite number is Pi, for obvious reasons. I enjoy teaching how to solve rational equations. My favorite moment in Mathnasium was when a student realized they can count by 2's by quietly saying one number to themselves, then one number out loud. Outside of the center you can find me playing ultimate frisbee, eating XXL M&M cookies from Giant, or hanging out with my dog.

Instructor

My favorite number is 27. There is no real reason, it is just a number that I have liked ever since I was young. I love teaching trigonometry. I love watching students learn tough concepts after weeks of working on them. Its very fulfilling to be able to help students have breakthroughs, especially on important topics! I live near Harpers Ferry, so I don't usually get treats in Purcellville, but I love croissants from my local coffee shop. I also have a cat named Luna. She is a mix between a tabby and a tuxedo cat.

Emmy M.

Instructor

My favorite number is Pi because it shows up in all of my engineering classes and it's my favorite response to whenever someone says to pick a number between 1-10 or 1-5. My favorite math subject to teach is anything algebra related. I enjoy watching students think through how it all works, especially as algebra is the foundation of all higher math. Outside of the center, I love to build/3D print things at my on campus makerspace! My favorite local treat would be a Thai tea from Finn Thai!

Josh M.

Instructor

My favorite number is 17 because its my lucky number. I enjoy teaching any higher level math subject. As an instructor, it is rewarding to witness any time a student understands reasoning in groups if they once couldn’t. “What part of _ is _?” is very integral to someone’s number sense. Outside of Mathnasium, I enjoy going to the gym and watching a variety of anime. My favorite Purcellville treat is Jersey Mike’s’ #56 and really anything from Chick-fil-A. Mathnasium is a welcoming environment for any type of student, and our instructors can help with any level of math K-12.

She enjoys sharing her love of math and is committed to helping students develop confidence, problem-solving skills, and a genuine appreciation for learning.

My favorite number 12. It is super versatile, it can be divided so many ways, and it usually helps math. It also shows up everywhere, like in time, calendars and measurements. My favorite subject to teach is Algebra, hands down. It's often where math starts to click for students, it is where they realize math isn't just numbers, it is a puzzle! I find it really rewarding to see a student who has been struggling suddenly solve a problem and light up. Its like seeing their confidence increase in real time. Outside of the center I love to garden!

Ryker Z.

Instructor

My favorite number is 63. I like how the number looks and I also like how 21 x 3 looks as a factor pair. Same with 7 x 9 but to a lesser degree. My favorite subject to teach is Algebra II. It consists of a lot of the foundations calculus is built on. I also find it enjoyable to explain. An "Aha!" moment I witnessed at Mathnasium was when a student was practicing multiplication facts of 9. Another student noticed and showed them a trick to solve these using their hands. It was wholesome to see one student help another and reflects well the culture we strive for. Between school and a shift at Mathnasium I will play guitar to get my brain working. It helps me focus better and to organize my thoughts. I have two dogs and a lizard. The dogs are named Abby and Evie, the lizard is named Sherman.

Caroline C.

Instructor

I like the number 7 because my family is 7 people, and it has such significance in the Bible. My favorite subject to teach is Geometry! I have a dog named Beau, who is a Hungarian Vizsla. Outside of the center, I enjoy playing the piano, hot chocolate chip cookies and a good hike with friends!

Solenna H.

Instructor

My favorite number is 14 because it was my cubby number for elementary school. I really enjoy teaching fractions because my own past struggles allow me to relate to my students' challenges. This perspective helps me understand common confusion areas and makes me a better teacher. My favorite Purcellville treat is Gruto’s Soft Serve. Outside of the center I love to paint, craft, and spend time with my dog!

Our Mathnasium Mission
