Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Joey L.

Assistant Center Director
Joey, a UCSB graduate with a degree in Aquatic Biology, is a lifelong resident of San Pedro and is deeply committed to its community. Recognizing the importance of public educational resources, he dedicates his time as a volunteer to institutions like AltaSea. While working as an Educational Aide at Dana Middle School, he also tutors at Mathnasium after school. When not diving into his community work, Joey enjoys photography, playing the piano, weightlifting, and experimenting in the kitchen.

Michael T.

Michael is a former South Carolinian and an incoming freshman at UC Irvine majoring in Computer Science and Engineering. He likes computers, games, STEM-related topics, going to the gym, taekwondo, and trying new out-doors activities. He hopes to meet many new people and make California his new home.

Kayla W.

Kayla is a student at California State University, Long Beach majoring in Computer Engineering. She has always been passionate about math, as she finds the problem-solving aspects both challenging and rewarding. In her free time, she enjoys playing video games, reading, and playing the piano.

John W.

John is a student at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, now learning Calculus, and happy to teach students at Mathnasium! John’s been passionate about math since elementary school, and has known he loves to teach for even longer! Having been through multiple tutoring programs through his younger years, he brings his knowledge, experience, and emphasis on patience and excitement understanding math to teaching. John works well with children of all ages, always finding time to connect over things like video games or how tough school can be. In his free time, John’s part of his school’s robotics team, and loves to work out and take care of his hair.

Erin is a Professor in the Mathematics department at Cal Poly Pomona.

Lead Instructor

Lead Instructor
My name is Adrian, and I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a BS and MS in Pure Mathematics in 2016 and 2018 respectively. I love surfing, lifing weights, reading, and playing video games. I spend a lot of my free time learning new things, my latest interest has been history specifically focusing on the migration period. I’ve spent most of my life in Southern California but I would really like to move up north to the Pacific Northwest as I enjoy when it rains.

Andrew B.

Operation Director
Andrew is a Palos Verdes native and recently moved back to the community after living in Chicago & New York. He studied math at Dartmouth College and is currently pursuing a M.Ed. in his free time. He also coaches the PV High Swim team (Go Sea Kings!) and has been instructing and coaching students for the last decade! With a strong passion for math and education, his goal is providing every student at the center with an effective, engaging, and encouraging learning experience that cultivates an intuitive understanding of math and learning.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
