Smiles and laughter filled the air on the Thursday night as games got underway at McGaugh Elementary's hugely successful Family Fun Night. More than an estimated 400 students and family members were in attendance for the annual school event. With the Book Fair in the auditorium, the Critters from Mobile Zoo in the library, and even an art show, a bake sale, and a hot dog booth, McGaugh PTA truly outdid themselves for this unforgettable night.
Welcomed to the festivities for the very first time, experts from Mathnasium of Seal Beach joined forces with McGaugh PTA and community volunteers from the Seal Beach Lions Club to facilitate an array of game stations geared to math and STEM learning.
Math Nights, developed by Mathnasium in partnership with National PTA in support of their STEM + Families initiative, are events co-hosted by Mathnasium and local elementary schools that provide quality STEM enrichment for students and their families while focusing on the “M” in STEM: math.
Hundreds of PTAs and thousands of families have already benefited from participating in Math Nights during the 2019-2020 school year, and thousands more are set to experience this magic in the coming year. Local elementary school, McGaugh Elementary, is thrilled that Mathnasium of Seal Beach wanted to bring this opportunity to them.
"Math Nights engage students and parents together in math activities, using hands-on learning experiences and fun games,” says Vicki Tang, Center Director at Mathnasium of Seal Beach. “It’s our mission to provide children of all skill levels with the strong math foundation they need, and these Math Night experiences inspire students’ interest in math, help them understand and master math concepts, promote STEM literacy, and empower families to support their children’s success in math. We’re pleased to be able to bring Mathnasium’s 40+ years of hands-on instruction and research to the students at McGaugh Elementary to hopefully set the stage for a love of math, true understanding, and lasting mastery.”
Thursday’s Math Night was co-hosted by Mathnasium of Seal Beach as part of the Mathnasium company’s founding partnership in National PTA’s STEM + Families initiative. They look forward to sharing more Math Nights with other local schools. If you’d like to bring a Math Night to your school, you can contact your local Mathnasium Learning Center for more information.
