Mathnasium of Spokane North Demystifies Math Tests: A Parent's Guide to Supporting Their Child's Success

Aug 15, 2024 | Spokane North

Q: How do you know what kind of math students in your center/re need to be taught?

A:
We start every student with an assessment that shows us which skills they know and which ones they could use support in. This allows us to address any learning gaps they may have through the custom learning plan we make for them.

Q: Why do students need to take tests?

A:
Taking tests and assessments allow us to identify a student's weaker areas in math. It also allows us to work with them to build understanding and confidence, while continuing to learn and move forward in math.

Q: Can Mathnasium help students prepare for their tests in math class?

A:
Mathnasium can help students prepare for their tests in math class! During finals week for middle school and high school students, we had multiple students bring in review packets and homework. Instructors help students one-on-one to review topics covered all throughout the year, while answering specific questions each student had, helping them feel more confident heading into their exam. It was one of my favorite things to then get to celebrate with, and congratulate students as they come into the center smiling. They are excited to tell us the score they worked hard to earn on their exam!

Q: What about College Placement Tests?

A:
College placement tests ranges from pre-algebra up to pre-calculus (even calculus). Mathnasium helps students review topics they have not touched on in a while. When the students have instructors to review with them, it helps students become more confident, and hopefully be placed in the spot they want for beginning their college career. I know it will be rough, but it will be worth it in the end!
