An Update from Mathnasium of Tallahassee

Mar 17, 2020 | Tallahassee
Dear Mathnasium of Tallahassee Families:

We hope this finds everyone safe and healthy as we navigate an ever-changing landscape these days.

Last Thursday, we had an instructor meeting to discuss our plans, at that time, regarding Covid-19. I joked that we consulted the Locally Owned Small Business Guide to Navigating a Pandemic – For Dummies before coming up with the plans.  So, in consulting that guide we find ourselves turning to a new chapter.

Based on Monday’s guidelines from the federal government and CDC discouraging groups of more than 10, it will be necessary for Mathnasium of Tallahassee to temporarily pause all in-center instruction effective immediately.  That means we will be closed for today (Tuesday) and Wednesday.  Because this is Spring Break for LCS, we were already scheduled to be closed Thursday.  We will remain closed that day.  Our plan to resume in-center instruction is outlined below.

We will also be temporarily pausing all @Home instruction for our students who are already doing that until Monday, March 23.

Between now and March 23, we will be working to move all students to our Mathnasium of Tallahassee @Home video conference instruction.  We will need this time to convert your Mathlete’s Mathnasium material for this platform.

Beginning March 23, all students will be able to do their sessions via Mathnasium @Home and based on federal guidelines, we have tentatively planned to resume in-center instruction after 15 days.  However, at that time, all in-center sessions will be by appointment only in order to limit the number of students in the learning center to allow for physical distancing.

Over the next few days we will send additional information regarding the plans to resume our in-center instruction along with details on how to get your @Home sessions set up.  Here are few key starting points:

  • While we are moving all instruction to @Home temporarily, it is just that – temporary. Based on today’s guidelines, in-center instruction will resume and your student can return back to in-center at that time.  And of course, if you’d like to continue with @Home, you may do that as well and transition back to in-center at a later date.

  • Since area schools anticipate extended closures, the packets of work they provide can still be worked on together with our instructor team via @Home.  We are able to provide the same homework help as if they were in-center.

  • You will not need to buy any special equipment for @Home sessions.  If you have an internet connection and computer with a keyboard and mouse, you’re all set.  However, please note that it will not work with iPads.  Please give us a call if you have any questions about the technology involved, we are happy to answer any questions.

  • Since launching our @Home instruction, the one difference from in-center is that those sessions are by appointment.  We will provide the appropriate information on how to schedule those sessions in the communications we will send regarding @Home

As always, we thank you for being a part of our Mathnasium of Tallahassee family.  As the situation progresses, we will continue to keep you updated on any changes that we may need to implement for our instruction operations.

In the meantime, please monitor your email for updates regarding your Mathlete’s @Home experience.

If we can ever answer any questions, please don’t hesitate…

Thank You

Lisa and Doug
