Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Austin Darnell

Area Manager

Austin holds a degree in Mathematics from James Madison University and joined Mathnasium in 2019. He’s served as Center Director at multiple locations and now supports teams as Area Manager.

While at JMU, Austin minored in film studies and brings creativity and enthusiasm to everything he does. Outside of work, he enjoys filmmaking, reading, and podcasting, and loves helping students and instructors thrive.

Ben Bramsen

Senior Regional Director

Ben’s journey in education began at the Indianapolis Zoo, where he volunteered with marine animals—especially walruses, his favorite. That experience sparked a love for teaching and outreach that he now channels into his work at Mathnasium.

He enjoys watching students grow and gain confidence through personalized instruction. Outside of work, Ben spends time exploring nature, playing guitar (he admits he’s still learning), and discovering new places.

Jeff McCabe

President

Jeff earned an Economics degree from James Madison University and a Master’s in Education from George Mason University. He spent 10 years teaching high school and college math before moving into leadership roles with national restaurant brands.

At Mathnasium, Jeff combines his love for math education with operational leadership. Outside of work, he enjoys time with his wife of 28 years, their two dogs, and visits with their three adult children.

James Temple

CEO

James graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Mathematics and served as an aircraft maintenance officer in the U.S. Air Force. During that time, he began tutoring homeschooled children and saw firsthand how challenging—but rewarding—math education can be.

After earning his MBA from UVA’s Darden School of Business, James launched his career in educational leadership. Today, he’s passionate about using math to empower students and prepare them for a lifetime of problem-solving and confidence.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.
