Kia's life has always revolved around math and theatre, from middle school competitions and performances, to high school calculus club and one-act plays. After pursuing a career in civil engineering in Texas, he ultimately decided to move to New York to see what else life has to offer. Kia started working at Mathnasium in 2016 and has found a passion in instilling his love of math to the students here. When he's not working, he's probably writing a play or doing a puzzle.
Beau Schwantes
Educational Director
Mathnasium Upper West Side is run by its dedicated Educational Directors, Beau Schwantes and Kia Sayyadi, along with Mathnasium of Manhattan & Affiliates franchise Director Tim Swain.
Beau graduated from Kent State University with a BS in aeronautical studies. Beau was hired as an instructor at Mathnasium in 2017 and was brought on to the management team in 2018. In 2019, he was promoted to the position of Educational Director at the Upper West Side center. Beau loves the positive and engaging atmosphere that Mathnasium has created for students. He enjoys working with children and helping them further themselves and is proud to be a part of the team that is so dedicated to helping kids with their individual needs.
Tim Swain
Director
Tim graduated with degrees in pre-medicine and dramatic art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While pursuing a career in acting, Tim was hired by Mathnasium of Manhattan owners, Tammy and Marc Goldberg, as their first instructor for the Upper East Side Mathnasium Learning Center.
Beginning with his work as a day-camp counselor and supervisor, Tim has worked with children in various capacities for the past 20 years. The son of two teachers, Tim took naturally to instructing at Mathnasium and was quickly given the opportunity to take on a larger role. With a unique combination of math expertise, actor's charisma, and a passion for "making math make sense" to kids, Tim became a mainstay at the center and a favorite among students. As he transitioned out of the life of an actor in the fall of 2010, Tim was promoted to the position of Assistant Director, helping to run the daily operations of both Mathnasium of Manhattan locations.
In January of 2012, Tim became a full-time Educational Director of the Upper West Side Mathnasium Center and is now in an oversight capacity supporting Beau and Kia and the Assistant Directors, and directing the Mathnasium@home program. Tim is thrilled to have been instrumental in improving the math education and confidence of so many Mathnasium students and looks forward to sharing his love of math with many more students in the Upper West Side community.
