Proper proportion.
In math, scale describes how we shrink or enlarge something while keeping its shape and proportions the same. It helps us create accurate drawings or models of real objects, like buildings, maps, or machines, without using their actual size.
For example, a map might show 1 inch for every 10 miles in real life. That’s a scale. Everything on the map is reduced in the same proportion, so it still accurately shows distances.

Students apply scale to solve problems with ratios, proportions, and geometric dilations.
