Reed Brown, Owner
Reed has always loved math and enjoys helping kids learn to love math and how to use math in their daily lives. Reed earned a BS of Electrical Engineering degree from Brigham Young University and a Masters of Business Administration degree at Boise State University. Reed has spent over 25 years as a successful engineering and operations executive at Hewlett Packard, Quantum, and Iomega. In 2004, he decided to test his entrepreneurial skills and created Matchbin (now Radiate Media), a successful internet software company.
Reed worked for Hewlett Packard in Boise for 15 years where he raised his family. Reed loves the Boise area and felt that by opening a Math Learning Center in the Treasure Valley he could give back to the community where his kids grew up. Reed opened his first Mathnasium in Utah in January, 2013 and his team has helped over 1500 students improve their grades and increase their confidence in math.
Dan Hintz, Regional Director, Part Owner
Dan has always had a passion for helping people achieve their potential and a calling to teach math. After high school, he earned an Associate of Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, before deciding to serve in the military. He served an Air Force tour in Germany as an F-16 fighter jet mechanic and fell in love with the mission and people. He decided to make the Air Force career and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Math at Central Washington University, while attending ROTC. He holds several Master of Science degrees related to his Air Force career. Dan served 22 years in the Air Force, leading thousands of men and women and managing a wide range of logistics programs, including the US President’s Air Force One fleet requirements, and many types of combat aircraft. He retired to spend more time with his wife and 6 children and to begin a lifelong dream of teaching math. He was voted Teacher of the Year by his high school students and earned 100% top ratings as a private tutor. Meanwhile, he was searching for why math seemed so easy to people in other countries, but was such a challenge to many Americans. He found the answer at Mathnasium and immediately joined in helping all students gain a true number sense and life-long confidence in math. He has taught, tutored and coached thousands of youth all his adult life. Dan and his team are committed to helping students grow their math skills and giving them the confidence to be or do whatever they want in life!
DawnAssistant Center Director
Dawn went to Colorado State University for her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and started teaching in Colorado. She immediately realized her passion for helping students who had a challenging time understanding math concepts. Dawn has endless energy and a drive to help youth in any way. She coached middle and high school volleyball, served as a Student Council Advisor, and advised other student groups. Dawn has tirelessly pursued professional development as a math teacher. She earned certification and proctored standardized tests, include state MAP tests and the ACT. She completed a yearlong “Teach Like a Champion” series, attended the National Council of Mathematics Teacher regional conferences and completed “Top 20 Teens” training. Dawn loves helping each individual achieve their goals, regardless of their unique skills or challenges. She has taught special education students, English as a second language students, advanced students, and a broad range of classroom students.
After 7 years of teaching in Colorado, Dawn decided it was time to move back to Idaho to raise her son and be close to her family. She found the opportunity to focus on family and continue helping students learn AND ENJOY math at Mathnasium!
Ryan Carter, Assistant Center Director
Ryan is an Idaho native, graduating from Fruitland High School as valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA. He is currently a Senior at Boise State University, pursuing a degree in mathematics with a secondary education emphasis. He will become the third consecutive generation of math teachers in his family. Prior to Mathnasium, Ryan worked as a substitute teacher at the high and middle school levels for a year and a half, then decided to serve our country by enlisting in the United States Army. He spent 3 and a half years as serving as a Company Communications Specialist, troubleshooting military vehicle communications equipment and learning to problem solve as an individual and as part of a team. In his free time, Ryan enjoys spending time with his wife, watching movies, and playing video games.
Julianna Buzzard, Lead Instructor
Julianna is an Idaho native, graduating Valedictorian of her high school in Middleton, completing math courses through Calculus III, and achieving a 4.0 GPA. She has always had a passion for math and loves to help others develop their math skills and confidence. Due to her love of helping others, Julianna served as president of her high school service club “Teens Making a Difference” for two years and she was also an active member of the National Honor Society. Julianna is now attending Boise State University where she is pursuing a degree in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering. Julianna loves to spend time with her family and her two huskies, drawing, and doing things outdoors.
Joseph Bezemek, Lead Instructor
Previously an instructor at the Mathnasium in Tracy, California, Joseph transferred to our center at the end of 2018. He’s an aspiring teacher and is pursuing degrees in mathematics and physics at Boise State. Joseph has a love of learning and enjoys figuring out how things work, making him the go-to instructor for students working on rigorous math problems, and for our team when we have problems with our computers - and occasionally our cars!
Jeffrey Watkins, Lead Instructor
Jeffrey grew up in Eagle and graduated from Renaissance High School, finishing near the top of his class. Jeffrey is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, with an emphasis in STEM Education, at Boise State University. Jeffrey loves working with kids, and helping them learn and grow into confident young adults. Before joining our team, he worked at the YMCA as a Sports Camp Counselor and Sand Volleyball Coach. With a lifelong passion for math and sciences, Jeffrey hopes to share and instill the same passion with our students, while entertaining them along the way. In his free time, Jeffrey enjoys playing and coaching sports, and he is currently the Freshman Assistant Volleyball coach at Rocky Mountain High School.
Sara Reid, Lead Instructor
Sara is finishing out her senior year at Renaissance High School. She currently holds a cumulative 4.1 GPA and is working towards her International Baccalaureate diploma. Sara has a strong interest in engineering, chemistry, and math, and in the future plans on pursuing a degree in Materials Science at Boise State University. Sara joined our team in late 2017. She is very enthusiastic about helping kids achieve their goals, and has been a great role model for our students. She is also an active member of her community, volunteering for the Meridian Food Bank. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, drawing, and jamming out to music.
Cindy Wiedeback, Instructor and ISAT Proctor
Cindy traveled from the midwest to Idaho after earning her Bachelor in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point, and her Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. After a successful career as a computer programmer, Cindy began tutoring mathematics in 2006, during which she has helped many struggling students build confidence in math. Since joining the Mathnasium in 2015, Cindy has
continued to help students grow confidence in their math skills and their ability to problem solve. She herself enjoyed the challenge of solving math problems, and relishes the opportunity to share this same joy with students.
Greta Reid, Instructor
Originally from Anchorage Alaska, Greta attended her home university before moving to Arizona to complete her Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology. She is passionate about math, and describes herself as a “math to English translator.” Greta loves helping our students gain a better grasp of difficult math concepts. In her free time, Greta is learning how to create CAD (Computer-Aided Design) models for 3D printing. One of her greatest accomplishments is raising an AMAZING daughter… who also happens to be on our team!
Eric Johnson, Instructor
Eric grew up in California with two brothers and five sisters. He spent two years on a missions trip to Colorado Springs, then attended California Polytechnic State University studying Aerospace Engineering. At Cal Poly, his senior project won runner up and he was invited to present at Northrup Grumman. Eric loves teaching and helping others. During college, he served as a teacher assistant and group leader hosting and teaching English to international students. He came to live in Meridian Idaho to be with family and to find a job teaching and helping others.
Carson Barningham, Instructor
Carson is a senior at Rocky Mountain High School, maintaining a 4.27 GPA, including 13 AP classes and math through Calculus. He is an Idaho state champion in Public Forum Debate and placed nationally at the speech and debate tournament in Dallas, TX. Carson scored a perfect 800 on the math section of the SAT. He loves helping other students improve their math fluency and problem-solving ability at Mathnasium.
Chris Ray, Instructor
Chris is in his Junior year studying Mechanical Engineering at Boise State University. He has experience with Computer-Aided Design, including the design of schematics. He grew up in Alaska and moved to Idaho for his undergraduate education. Chris enjoys coordinating events and serving on a team. He chaired several boards for his college fraternity and recently served as treasurer. Chris helped Idaho’s STEM Action Center on the F3 Idaho project, pairing novice robotics teams with veteran teams for mentoring and development. He hopes to help students gain confidence in math and would love to mentor kids interested in computer-aided design and engineering.
Stella Rieth, Instructor
Stella is currently attending Centennial High School and has maintained a GPA of 4.0 and higher in middle and high school. She was accepted into the Gifted and Talented Program and Treasure Valley Math and Science Center for Middle School. Stella is enrolled in 2 AP and 3 dual credit (high school and college) courses and has completed math through Calculus I. In her free time, Stella works as a piano accompanist and plays the violin in the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the West Ada Chamber Orchestra, and the Idaho All-State Orchestra. She has a passion for both dancing and swimming and is currently on Centennial’s swim team. Stella joined the team because of her love of teaching and her dream of becoming a math professor. She is the youngest instructor ever hired at our Mathnasium!
