Mathnasium of Findlay Creek's Summer Camp: A Week of Coding, STEM, and Math Fun!

From July 14–18, Mathnasium of Findlay Creek was buzzing with creativity, curiosity, and excitement as we hosted our week-long summer camp. This wasn’t your average camp; we packed each 6-hour day with a dynamic blend of coding, STEM activities, math enrichment, and plenty of fun and games to keep kids engaged and inspired.

A Perfect Mix of Learning and Fun
 

Each day was structured into four main blocks:

• 2 hours of coding
• 2 hours of STEM activities
• 1 hour of Mathnasium math
• 1 hour of break and games

This balance allowed students to explore new skills, work collaboratively, engage in physical activity, and maintain their math skills over the summer.

Getting Creative with Code

Campers were introduced to Scratch, a beginner-friendly coding platform that empowers kids to create animations, games, and interactive stories.

The students dove into building their projects, bringing unique characters to life and programming games like:

• Maze games
• Dance animations
• Platformers
• And more!

It was incredible to watch their creativity flourish as they turned ideas into functional, playable games, some for the very first time!

STEM That Sparked Wonder

• Our STEM block was packed with hands-on experiments, challenges, and activities that got kids thinking, building, and exploring. Some highlights included:
• Watching dry-erase drawings magically lift off plates and glide across water
• Creating colorful soap rainbows using water, oil, and dish soap
• Building and racing balloon-powered cars with just simple materials and lots of imagination

Every activity combined problem-solving, critical thinking, and, of course, a whole lot of fun.

Ending the Day with Mathnasium Math

Each afternoon ended with one focused hour of Mathnasium-style learning. Students worked through customized math programs that built their confidence and reinforced important skills, all in a positive, low-pressure environment. It was the perfect way to wind down each day and keep math minds fresh for the fall.
