Let's learn a bit more about what a Comprehensive Assessment at Mathnasium of Langley looks like.

Q: What is a comprehensive assessment?

A: Mathnasium's comprehensive assessment is a diagnostic test that we use to create our customized Learning Plans for students.

Q: What things do you learn about a student when they take a comprehensive assessment?

A: Basically, we use the results to identify the student's strengths and any gaps in their understanding. We can also determine how they think when they're doing math.

Q: What is a customized learning plan?

A: Each student has a different profile of strengths and weaknesses and we use that to determine the best order of math topics, and the optimal combination of topics for learning balance and retention. For example, Rachel was struggling with adding fractions at school, and we discovered through the initial assessment that she couldn't make sense of fractions at all. So, we filled in that gap before helping her understand what it means to add fractions.

Q: How do you gauge progress?

A: Every 4 months, a student will complete another round of assessments so we can measure retention and hone in on their newfound strengths. If a student can correctly answer a question 3 months after studying it with us, they've got it!
