Priya Iyer
Centre Director
Priya (pree-ya) leads Mathnasium of West Edmonton with a passion for cultivating an intuitive and joyful approach to math. She is dedicated to creating a warm, positive learning environment where students feel empowered to improve their skills, no matter their current level.
With a keen focus on building confidence, Priya works closely with highly trained instructors to deliver individualized instruction that supports long-term growth. Outside the centre, she enjoys painting, reading, and watching her favorite shows. Her favorite math joke? “Are you sure I make a difference?” said the minus sign. “I’m positive!” replied the plus.
Jun Makita
Lead Instructor
Jun is a graduate student in Public Health at the University of Alberta with a deep appreciation for math and its role in everyday life. He has completed courses in Linear Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics and uses this knowledge to support students through clear, approachable instruction.
Jun enjoys playing tennis and golf in his spare time, and his favorite math joke is: “What’s the best way to get a math tutor? An Add!” He believes Mathnasium helps students build both numerical fluency and the mindset to approach real-world problems with confidence.

Evan currently attends Lillian Osborne High School and will be attending the University of Alberta in the fall. He is passionate about showing how mathematics can be both engaging and practical in everyday life. Evan has developed a strong understanding of advanced math courses and has completed all 30-1 level sciences, building a solid foundation and enthusiasm for STEM subjects.
Outside of academics, Evan enjoys sports such as baseball and hockey. His favorite math joke is, “Teaching math is basically turning ‘I can’t’ into ‘Ohhhh.’” He believes math is like solving a puzzle — once it clicks, it’s actually fun.

Ethan is a recent graduate of the University of Alberta in political science and economics, with experience applying mathematical concepts into practical and concrete decision-making. He has experience being a learning assistant with the Kumon organization/method and loves to mentor and teach youth while volunteering outside of work.
In his spare time, Ethan enjoys physical activities such as going to the gym or playing basketball. He also enjoys playing music, with experience with acoustic, electric, and bass guitar. His favourite math joke is Did you know that there are three kinds of people in the world? Here they are: people who can count and people who can’t. He believes that Mathnasium can allow for the space to develop fundamental skills that will be applicable for everyday professional and personal life, not just developing students academically, but also as people.
