Today you’ll get a glimpse into the happenings of your local center as we follow students through their first experience at Mathnasium of Coal Mountain.

Q: What is the first thing a brand new student does at your center?

A: A new student is oriented to our digital work out book, told about rewards and how to earn them, they meet and are welcomed by the instructors, answers question of the week and they begin to work on their learning plans.

Q: What is the comprehensive assessment? How long does it take to finish?

A: We begin with a verbal assessment based on grade level and then will decide which fluency assessment will be administered. After this we will determine which check up assessment is appropriate for the student.

Q: How often should I bring my student to Mathnasium of Coal Mountain?

A: Based on the assessment score, we may recommend 2-3 per week. Mathnasium tells us that 2 times a week is sweet spot.

Q: Who are the people teaching my child?

A: Our instructors are required to take a very detailed assessment, and must score at least 90 % correct before being considered for hire. We have an array of instructors that range from high school to college level. Some of our instructors started with us while in high school and are now in college ( University of Georgia, Georgia Tech ) and still work with us, either online or in center. While some of our instructors are new to our team, we have several instructors that have been with us for almost 3 years or longer.

Q: When can I bring my child into Mathnasium of Coal Mountain?

A: We are open on Sunday 1 to 4. Monday to Thursday, the center is open from 3:30 to 7:30 with online appointments from 4:30 to 7:30. We require that students have an appointment scheduled. There are times that an appointment must be rescheduled and we do our best to accommodate these changes.

Q: How do you motivate your students at Mathnasium of Coal Mountain?

A: We have several reward opportunities in place, but our most successful was a drawing for $100.00. We had the students bring in tests/ quizzes that they received a 100 on during the first semester of school that was then placed on the brag board. At the end of the semester, we randomly chose a name and the winner walked away with a 100 dollar bill! We did a Facebook Live event to choose and announce the winner. So much fun!
