Interested In Math Tutoring? Hereâ€s 3 Things To Consider…

Dec 30, 2020 | South Friendswood

This year we are seeing an increased number of parents and teachers more concerned about their child/student keeping up and learning the math skills they need to be successful in years to come.

COVID has brought challenges and difficulties to the learning environment that some worry may cause many kids to fall behind, particularly in math.

However, we are working hard to help our students so they don’t fall behind or experience the COVID slide.

If you are thinking about getting extra help or math tutoring for your child, there are three important things to consider before you begin…

  1. Make sure the tutor or learning center is qualified. When looking for a tutor or learning center, you’re trusting your child with them. Make sure you understand their philosophies and that they are qualified. Does the individual tutor working with your child speak English clearly? Or have experience teaching high school or college level math courses? What’s the tutor’s track record?
    • Our team of qualified tutors at Mathnasium of Friendswood includes those with Bachelor’s degrees in Education as well as those currently in college who have a passion for teaching in a fun, positive, simple way that makes sense to your child. We feel it is important for each student to work well with their tutor, so if you ever feel like someone is not the right fit, we will happily make arrangements with another tutor in the learning center.
  2. Understand how progress is measured before you begin. Review the tutoring plan and make sure there is a way to track progress. At our math learning center, we always have a student take the free assessment to understand where they are and how they learn. Once this assessment is complete, we personalize a learning plan to address their specific needs. Our customized learning plans build confidence and skills your child needs to succeed in math. We will provide you with verbal and written evaluations that pinpoint your child’s strengths and weaknesses each week, month and/or quarter (as necessary).
    • With the technology available today, almost any math tutoring for elementary through high school age can be done online or in-person. We have certainly experienced more of a shift online this year but are continuing to offer both. We are working hard to keep our center clean and germ-free—offering hand sanitizer throughout the tutoring sessions, never sharing pencils or supplies, providing adequate distance between students and tutors between plexiglass and more. At Mathnasium, we make it so you can work with your tutor in person or online, depending on your needs. Our schedule is flexible, and we will always do our best to work around yours.

We are passionate about math and want to make our students feel that way too. Whether your child struggles or just needs a greater challenge, our math tutors are here to help students learn and truly understand how math works!
