We've heard it plenty. Neuroscientists have confirmed it. Writing down your goals boosts your likelihood of reaching them by 20-40%.
Getting our Littleton mathletes (as we lovingly dub them) to write down their math goals for 2021 was surprisingly painless. There was no, "I dunno, what do you think?" or "I don't have one".
Reflecting on why, I realize it's because at Mathnasium of Littleton, Center Director, Instructor, Parent and Student are all on the same page.
I can't overstate what a big deal this is.
If you don't know what I mean by "on the same page" I'll break down just what that means below.
1. All four people (recap: Center Director, Instructor, Parent & Student) have a clear, running knowledge of what math abilities and math gaps (stuff that hasn't been mastered and needs to be) the child has.
2. All four people know the individual math learning plan designed to fill in those gaps.
3. As regular assessments demonstrate gaps closed & new math skills mastered, the learning plan is refocused and each party is quickly updated. We endorse Carnegie Melon University's Education Department's stance: "Learning takes place in students’ heads where it is invisible to others. This means that learning must be assessed through performance: what students can do with their learning."- Assessing Student Learning.
In other words, through assessment and transparency it's crystal clear to students at Mathnasium of Littleton what math they need to master this year, plus they are supported & held accountable by key role players--Parent, Instructor & Center Director. We know they know the game plan:)
Listen to Angela Comacho describe the way Mathnasium gave her son the desperate math help he needed to be successful at school:
If your child struggles in Math, this place is to take your child for exceptional \( tutoring!"
I second Angela's endorsement:) If your child needs math help--perhaps they are advanced math students that need to be challenged or so frustrated with math they are in tears--Mathnasium of Littleton City's superb instructors (math tutors) and proven method will deliver.
