Candy
Center Director
Candy earned dual degrees in Business Information Systems and Accounting from the University of North Texas. After several years in the telecommunications industry, she made the life-changing decision to step away from the corporate world as a project manager to become a full-time stay-at-home mom—an experience she considers both the most challenging and the most rewarding season of her life.
While homeschooling her children, Candy discovered a deep passion for education. She taught middle school math and science and helped lead a homeschool co-op, where she gained valuable experience in both instruction and organization. During that time, she found great joy in helping students grow in confidence and realize they were capable of more than they thought—especially in math.
After her youngest graduated from high school, Candy joined Mathnasium, where she loves helping students strengthen their skills, build confidence, and believe in their ability to succeed—one concept at a time.
When she’s not teaching, Candy enjoys spending time with her family, especially when it includes good food and plenty of laughter.
Mia
Associate Center Director
Mia holds a Master’s degree in Human Development & Early Childhood Disorders from the University of Texas at Dallas and has more than five years of experience supporting young children as they build essential learning skills.
Through her work with children who have a wide range of developmental needs in both clinical and in-home settings, Mia has developed a strong understanding of how to tailor support to meet each child’s unique strengths and challenges.
She is passionate about creating a supportive learning environment where students feel confident, encouraged, and motivated to learn. Mia believes that positive early learning experiences build the foundation for long-term success in math, and she enjoys partnering with families to help children grow, develop confidence, and thrive.
Outside of work, Mia enjoys ice skating and baking (though not at the same time!) and loves trying out new recipes on her friends and family.
Jodi
Director of Education
Jodi holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Math from Hope College, a Master's in Math Education, and a Specialist's degree in Curriculum and Teacher Leadership from Piedmont College.
With over 20 years of experience, she has taught everything from 8th grade math to IB math studies and is a certified gifted instructor. Jodi loves guiding students to moments of clarity and achievement, especially when a tough concept finally clicks. She believes that with the right support and tools, every student can succeed and develop a deep understanding of math.
Lauren

At Mathnasium of McKinney, we take a straightforward approach to exam readiness: build real math understanding over time, and the results follow.
Every student begins with a diagnostic assessment that pinpoints their current skill level and uncovers any knowledge gaps. From there, we build a personalized learning plan that strengthens math understanding session by session, so students are never scrambling to catch up before a big test.
Our specially trained tutors support students across all PreK-12 math subjects, from elementary math through Precalculus and beyond, reinforcing what's being taught in school and filling in any foundational gaps. When a significant exam is on the horizon, we align instruction with the specific topics it covers, so students walk confidently and prepared.
For our younger students, that often means building confidence with multi-step problems, word problems, and formulas, the areas where many elementary and middle school students need the most support.
Yes! Mathnasium of McKinney prepares students for the math portions of the STAAR assessment.
Our tutors align instruction with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards, ensuring students have a solid command of the grade-level concepts they'll encounter on test day.
We start with a diagnostic assessment to identify each student's individual gaps, then develop a personalized learning plan that builds the skills they need to meet and exceed grade-level expectations.
Ideally, several months before the test date, depending on their skill level. STAAR measures cumulative math knowledge built throughout the school year, which means students benefit far more from steady, ongoing support than from last-minute cramming.
The best time to begin is at the start of the school year or semester. This gives our tutors time to identify gaps, reinforce foundational skills, and keep students progressing toward grade-level mastery well before test day arrives.
If your student is already closer to the exam, don't worry, we can still make a real impact. Contact our McKinney center and we'll put together a focused plan based on the time available.
Yes. For high school students who need it, we provide foundational support for the math sections of the SAT®, PSAT®, and ACT®, building the core skills that carry over to any standardized test.
Our tutors use proprietary test prep materials and personalized learning plans to build both the content knowledge and problem-solving strategies students need to perform their best on exam day.
Whether your student is sitting for the test for the first time or working to raise their score, we tailor preparation to where they are and where they want to be.
The earlier your student begins, the better prepared they will be. Three to six months before the exam is a solid target, but more time is always an asset.
These college admissions tests cover a broad range of math content, including algebra, data analysis, geometry, and, on the ACT®, trigonometry. Students who start early have the time to close knowledge gaps, build fluency with exam-style problems, and develop the confidence that comes from consistent, focused practice.
For students with more significant foundational gaps, beginning in middle school or early high school can make a meaningful difference by the time they're ready to test.
If the exam date is coming up soon, reach out to us, and we'll build a targeted plan around the time your student has.
Math test prep at Mathnasium of McKinney is included as part of a flat monthly membership fee. The specific cost depends on your student's personalized plan and session schedule.
For detailed pricing, we encourage you to contact our center directly. We're happy to talk through the options and help you find a plan that fits your student's goals and your family's budget. You can also schedule a free assessment to get started.
The right number of sessions looks different for every student, depending on their current skills, the exam they're working toward, and the time available before test day.
As a general guideline, students preparing for a major college admissions exam like the SAT®, PSAT®, or ACT® typically attend two sessions per week over a three-to-six-month period. For STAAR or classroom-based exams, the recommended timeline may be shorter based on the student's needs.
Once we've completed the diagnostic assessment, we'll have a clear picture of where your student stands and can recommend a session schedule that gives them the best shot at success.
Yes! Students can participate in live, face-to-face online sessions with our specially trained McKinney tutors and follow the same personalized learning plan as they would follow in-center sessions.
Not in terms of quality or content. Both formats deliver the same personalized learning plan, face-to-face instruction, and attentive support from our tutors in a caring group environment. Many families take advantage of both options, blending in-center and online sessions to stay flexible around busy schedules, school activities, and upcoming exam dates.
Yes. Our tutors are well-versed in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards and understand the academic expectations of schools throughout McKinney and the surrounding area.
Where appropriate, we incorporate state standards and classroom curriculum directly into each student's personalized learning plan, so test prep and school performance reinforce each other.
