Q1: What’s the most important habit students can build to succeed in math?
A: The absolute most important habit is practicing a few times a week to make consistent, steady progress. Just like a house must start with the foundation, then build the walls, then the roof, all before furnishing it; learning math is a process that takes time. Students must be patient and consistent in learning their current skills before they move on. Of course, it is vitally important to have regular practice to be able to build upon those skills.
Q2: What do students usually enjoy the most about Mathnasium once they get started?
A: Students love that math simply doesn't have to be scary anymore. The biggest change we see in students is their confidence and improved comfort. When students feel supported in math, they're empowered and realize that math doesn't have to be stressful. Difficult homework is no longer a nightmare, because our students understand they have the skills and resources necessary to tackle difficult work.
Q3: How do you keep students motivated during tough topics?
A: As students slowly build up their math skills with us, they also build up their rewards. Every page is a step closer to those rewards, and every skill that a student masters has a bigger prize! Even if a topic is hard, the student can savor their perseverance and hard work with a treat at the end of their lesson.
