Making Waves in Math This Summer at Mathnasium of Mukilteo

Q1: What’s one way your center makes summer learning fun and engaging for students??

A: Every Wednesday this summer, we're starting off our afternoon with an open-invite game hour! The game hour is a great opportunity for our students to take it easy, play with peers and instructors, and try some fun logic and math-based games! We encourage our students to attend and bring a friend at 2:00 PM every Wednesday!

Q2: What’s a moment this summer that reminded you why you love working with students?

A: Some of our students are frequently overwhelmed during the school year. Many of them do their best at Mathnasium, but they may arrive tired and burnt out from school. At Mathnasium of Mukilteo, we have LOVED seeing those students both come in and leave with big smiles this month. The summer presents an opportunity for us to connect with students outside of their usual stress and day-to-day exhaustion. We're always so excited when our students are energetic, well-rested, and eager to learn math!

Q3: Why do you think summer is such a powerful time for students to build math skills?

A: Whether a student is catching up or getting ahead, there can be a lot of pressure to achieve! With the lowered stress of the summer season, this is the perfect time for students to commit to their math education! Many of our students are finishing up their current grade level curriculum at Mathnasium and are learning new material to get ready for their next school year. For our students who still need a little more time to catch up, several are taking additional lessons at Mathnasium for the summer for a little extra practice. Still, other students are using this time to push ahead to math topics they've never seen before! Summers at Mathnasium use that extra time to create a low-pressure learning environment, regardless of the student's current math skill so students can return to school refreshed and confident!
