Mathnasium of Mukilteo's Top 5 Moments!

1. Our favorite “aha!” moment with a student.

A: One of my recent favorite ""aha!"" moment has been when I was teaching an Algebra 1 student how to factor a polynomial as he has been puzzled by the topic for weeks at school. After I showed him how to do it, he commented that "How come this is not even a school, but it makes so much more sense than going to school?"

2. A time when a student earned a reward.

A: One of the students had been saving up for a big Hello Kitty Squishmallow (see one of our previous FB/IG posts). The student had been working really hard to earn stamps and saving up for months to redeem the reward! She was super happy once she got the Hello Kitty Squishmallow and we were very proud of her accomplishment!

3. Positive parent experience.

A: At Mathnasium, we obviously help students to improve on their math skills. We are grateful that parents notice our work and the impact that it has on their children's progress. However, we are also very proud of helping our customers above and beyond, and customers thanked us with handwritten notes about the incidents - Several customers had battery problems with their cars and weren't able to start their cars after they picked up their children. Our instructors jumped in to help them jump start their cars and even soliciting their own family member to bring in the jumper cable and jump box to help get the customers back on the road again. This is how we treat our customers at the Mathnasium of Mukilteo, like a friend or family member! :)

4. Favorite ways to teach concepts.

A: I love using manipulatives to teach student concepts. My favorites are using blocks to teach them about counting and dividing, using fraction tiles to compare and compute fractions, and using coins to demonstrate making changes!

5. A time when a student scored well on a test.

A: I'm particularly proud of the students who show huge improvements on their tests and their confidence. One of the students was very timid and wasn't feeling good about math when she first joined us over a year ago. Now, she's beaming with confidence and coming in with math tests that she scored 100% to redeem for extra reward cards! What a day and night difference, and it really warms our hearts.
